In his early 50s now, Suniel Shetty began learning martial arts under Sensei Pervez Mistry (India’s first black belt Karate instructor) since age 11. And as far as fitness goes, he’s pretty qualified to pass on the knowledge he’s gleaned over the years.

A book is definitely in the offing, he says. “There is so much out there to learn in terms of health and fitness and everyone can do it. I am figuring out where to begin the book from? I promise to change people’s lives in six months if they let me do it. I will show you the change. People ask me why am I training so hard when I am in my 50s? I feel training should start at that age. I know beyond 75-80, my body will age naturally, but I can keep it fit and healthy,” he shares.

He further adds, “My book will also be about food. It’s not only about diets and weight, stomach issues like acidity, how you can control it without antacids, how do you detox, the importance of water and raw vegetables, etc. Diet is all about balancing your food —carbs, greens and proteins — my book will have all of this.”

Suniel has become more charged about health and fitness since his business venture with TataSky last year. “I believe my journey has begun with the meeting with them. It has triggered off a major move within me to educate kids and people. When I entered Bollywood, I wanted to bulk up, but now I am in my mid 50s. I want to stay leaner, look younger and be fitter. I want to maintain my strength and I want to rub that off on the kids. It’s very important to stay lean and strong. Now Athiya is working on weight training as well. She is quite strong. All of us have genetically gifted bodies, we are blessed to stay lean.”
