In one part of India, a mob lynches a man from another community while in another part, people empty a road to facilitate Friday prayers. One can spot a dargah and a temple in a radius of 500 metres and within the same locality, people from one community refuse to rent their houses to those from another community. The country, which has secularism and free speech in its constitution, faces instances of contradictory coexistence as the tolerance-intolerance debate deepens.

The upcoming film, Shorgul, unearths the political underbelly and religious scams that have made headlines. The makers hope that by assimilating actors like Jimmy Sheirgill, Ashutosh Rana, Eijaz Khan, Sanjay Suri, Hiten Tejwani, Anirudh Dave, Narendra Jha, Suha Guzen and Deepraj Singh Rana, who are known for portraying roles with grey shades, the multi-starrer will be a leap for political dramas. The actors believe the movie will prompt viewers to think. Ashutosh says, “This film is the need of the hour and urges audiences to start acting instead of reacting.“ Eijaz adds, “A movie like this can make the country's decision makers take note.“ Jimmy concurs, “It's a story that should reach the masses and create a conversation amongst the youth as the power of change is vested in their hands.“

Samira Kelkar, CEO of 24 FPS Films Production that is presenting the film, states, “Shorgul breaks stereotypical beliefs of how no religion is better or worse and that extremism is detrimental to the growth of a nation. We are proud of it and the fact that it gives a contemporary twist to real-time incidents that rocked the nation over the years by asking the question 'where does humanity stand in the midst of intolerance?'“

Shorgul, a 24 FPS Films Production produced by Swatantra Vijay Singh, releases on June 24
