WILL SARBJIT MANAGE TO DO JUSTICE TO DALBIR KAUR’S LONG FIGHT?
One of the most heartbreaking stories for Indians is that of Sarabjit Singh. A resident of Punjab, he accidentally strayed into Pakistan and then was arrested on charges of spying. His sister Dalbir Kaur bravely put up a fight and tried her best to rescue his brother. Sadly, he died in prison in 2013. Omung Kumar, who impressed with his directorial debut Mary Kom, has now tried to capture this story in Sarbjit. Randeep Hooda plays Sarabjit while Aishwarya Rai Bachchan plays his sister. Richa Chadha essays the role of his wife while Darshan Kumaar, who caught attention with Mary Kom, will be seen as a Pakistani who fights for Sarabjit’s release.
The film has been in the news since a long time but managed to make a mark when pictures of Randeep’s shocking transformation came to the fore. It was shocking to see Randeep losing almost 20 kgs and looking malnourished. Viewers were startled but the respect for Randeep also enhanced after those pictures were out. Aishwarya on the other hand too has a transformation and it’s something to watch out for.
The film has caught the attention and the Indo-Pak angle can attract audiences to theatres. However, the subject is not mainstream. Also Randeep’s torture scenes in jail will definitely put off the family audiences. The film won’t have a chance in B and C centres. The opening will be average and it can grow if the word of mouth is positive. As per reports, the budget is reasonable and that should help. Omung’s last film Mary Kom had got a tax free status before release. Something of this sort would have significantly helped Sarbjit.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE SARBJIT AND WHY? DO LET ME KNOW!
