Bong beauty Bipasha Basu has
been swept off her feet by her dapper dulha Karan Singh Grover. The
couple tied the knot last evening in an intimate ceremony at a hotel in
Mumbai. “It was a fairy tale wedding, exactly the way Bips wanted. Ever
since she was a little girl, she had dreamt of a traditional Bengali
ceremony. Though Karan is a Punjabi, he was really excited about
dressing up as the quintessential Bengali groom,“ said a friend of the
couple.
Families from both sides seemed thrilled with this cross-cultural shaadi. Karan's family was enthusiastic about learning Bengali customs from the bride's family. “In their case, the dhol and bhangra were replaced by subtle shehanai tunes. It was a unique experience for them and they seemed to enjoy every bit of it,“ said a source.
Separate haldi ceremonies were held at the wedding venue in the morning. Friends of the couple spent most part of the morning shuttling between the bride and the groom. The wedding rituals began around 7 pm, which was attended by close friends and family. Bipasha was dressed in a red-and-white bridal Benarasi sari. “Bipasha's favourite colour is red and she knows how to pull it off well. The best sight of the evening was Karan managing his topor (a white conical headgear worn by grooms in Bengali shaadi) and pleats of his dhoti draped in a typical style,“ said a source. Bipasha's mother Mamta Basu told us, “We have waited so long to see her get married and are happy she has found the man of her dreams. Our blessings are always with her and our happiness lies in hers. We wish her the best for this new beginning.“
The post-wedding party began at 10 pm after the bride and the groom changed into more comfortable attires. The party went on till late night with close friends. About their honeymoon plans, a friend revealed, “They will plan an exotic vacation soon after they get over the exhaustion of the wedding.“
