Bipasha Basu-Karan Singh Grover take their wedding vows

Mohar Basu (BOMBAY TIMES; May 1, 2016)

Bong beauty Bipasha Basu has been swept off her feet by her dapper dulha Karan Singh Grover. The couple tied the knot last evening in an intimate ceremony at a hotel in Mumbai. “It was a fairy tale wedding, exactly the way Bips wanted. Ever since she was a little girl, she had dreamt of a traditional Bengali ceremony. Though Karan is a Punjabi, he was really excited about dressing up as the quintessential Bengali groom,“ said a friend of the couple.

Families from both sides seemed thrilled with this cross-cultural shaadi. Karan's family was enthusiastic about learning Bengali customs from the bride's family. “In their case, the dhol and bhangra were replaced by subtle shehanai tunes. It was a unique experience for them and they seemed to enjoy every bit of it,“ said a source.

Separate haldi ceremonies were held at the wedding venue in the morning. Friends of the couple spent most part of the morning shuttling between the bride and the groom. The wedding rituals began around 7 pm, which was attended by close friends and family. Bipasha was dressed in a red-and-white bridal Benarasi sari. “Bipasha's favourite colour is red and she knows how to pull it off well. The best sight of the evening was Karan managing his topor (a white conical headgear worn by grooms in Bengali shaadi) and pleats of his dhoti draped in a typical style,“ said a source. Bipasha's mother Mamta Basu told us, “We have waited so long to see her get married and are happy she has found the man of her dreams. Our blessings are always with her and our happiness lies in hers. We wish her the best for this new beginning.“

The post-wedding party began at 10 pm after the bride and the groom changed into more comfortable attires. The party went on till late night with close friends. About their honeymoon plans, a friend revealed, “They will plan an exotic vacation soon after they get over the exhaustion of the wedding.“

Wedding in the offing for Bipasha Basu-Harman Baweja?

After John Abraham’s New Year wedding to girlfriend Priya Runchal, his ex-flame Bipasha Basu too has decided to tie the knot this year with steady date Harman Baweja. Sources close to the couple however tell Mirror that the actress’ decision was made before John announced his marriage on Twitter.

But Bipasha and Harman will make their plans official only after his film Dhishkiyaon, produced by Shilpa Shetty and her husband Raj Kundra, hits theatres. The film is slated to release in August.

Bipasha’s parents, HK and Mamta Basu, had their first formal meeting with Harman’s parents, producer Harry Baweja and wife Pammi, at the Bawejas’ residence in Lokhandwala Complex.

A close friend of the actress told this newspaper, “After that meeting, their respective parents have met quite a few times.”

Added the friend, “Bipasha and Harman are really serious about each other. I am sure that they want to tie the knot this year.”

The two were first spotted together when the actress arrived at Jackyy Bhagnani's birthday party in Harman’s car in December 2012. While the tongues were still wagging, the two were again spotted at a North Goa resort, ushering in Bipasha's birthday at a pool party.

They soon started stepping out together in public and it was clear that this relationship was for keeps when the 33-year-old actor flew to London in October 2013, to keep Bipasha company while she was shooting for Sajid Khan’s Humshakals.

On Monday night, Bipasha ushered in her 35th birthday with Harman at a party at her Khar pad, and guests included her parents and younger sister, R Madhavan, Rocky S, Dipannita Sharma, Sophie Chaudhary, Shamita Shetty, Shilpa and Raj.

Says a friend present at the party, "The theme of the evening was pink and white and hats were mandatory. The fare on offer was all-Bengali and the party continued till the wee hours of Tuesday, first on her terrace and then in the apartment."

While Bipasha and Harman chose not to comment on the story, Harry Baweja told us, “I am in a narration. I will speak to you later.” Repeated efforts to get in touch with him failed to evoke a response. Probably the narration was too long.
