Alia Bhatt is the latest entrant in the list of celebrities supporting social causes, but with a twist. In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the actress recently launched a pop-up store at Juhu beach for underprivileged children.
"It is important that every kid lives a quality life," she said while distributing clothes and notebooks among street kids in the vicinity.
The 23-year-old-actress represents 'The Street Store', a global initiative that works towards homelessness and originated in South Africa. The Mumbai chapter, launched through an open source initiative where the organisation calls for participation from local brands, is their 449th outlet.
"I love to shop and I love clothes. I am delighted to be a part of creating a shopping experience for children that is actually free of cost," Alia said, adding, "It is a fundamental right to be clothed properly and treated with respect."
"Not many people have the privilege of buying whatever they want so this is a great idea. I have donated my clothes too," revealed Alia who looked elegant in a beige blouse, denims, pumps and a hair band, her effervescent smile in place.
The actress who has been filming Gauri Shinde's yet-to-be-titled romance-drama with Shah Rukh Khan in Goa also recalled taking off to the markets in the tourist state during breaks. "I am a boho chick, I love the hippie influence. I like buying accessories from these places. The night flea market is especially beautiful in Goa."
At sunset, the Highway actress threw caution to wind, walking out of her pop-up shop to the beach in the muggy weather where she posed with gathered bystanders.
