The actor’s efforts to free Singh made headlines internationally, but that chapter has been left out of the film

Enlarge ImageIn Sarbjit, a crucial chapter will be missing. The film centers around the efforts and struggle of Sarabjit’s sister to bring him back to his country and home. Dalbir Kaur sought help from every quarter to free her brother including government officials and humanitarians on both sides of the border. She left no stone unturned, and even approached Salman Khan, because the superstar has many fans across the border and she thought if he asked for her brother to be released, it would help his case.

In 2012, Dalbir, along with Sarabjit’s daughters, met Salman on the sets of Dabangg 2. They requested the star to help them secure release for Sarabjit. Post the meeting, an emotional Salman tweeted saying he felt bad for Sarabjit’s family and longed to launch his support for his release. He even launched an online campaign (see box) urging people to sign a petition to free the falsely accused Indian. In an interview Dalbir claimed that Salman was sincere about helping the family and was not just tweeting, but also offered the family emotional support till his release. He was the only actor who strongly voiced his opinion on the matter.

An insider reveals that Salman’s efforts to free Singh made news internationally, will not be shown in the biopic. “The Salman chapter being dropped perhaps has something to do with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan playing Dalbir. There is no other reason to not include this important part in the film. Salman and Aishwarya are not on talking terms, so it wouldn’t have been possible to even get them to face the camera together. In cases where two actors don’t want to shoot together, often these scenes are shot separately but in this case, they had to be face-to-face, so the makers decided not to include that incident in the film.”

The spokesperson for Sarbjit confirms, “This is not part of the film because the film has to convey and show 23 years of Dalbir’s struggle and it’s not possible to show every incident.”

Salman’s online petition
