Asha Bhosle's granddaughter, 14-year-old Zanai, recorded a song with India's first transgender band, 6 Pack, on Friday. The number, a modern take on the Maharashtrian folk number, "Hil Pori Hila", will release in March.

Says Asha, "It's what today's generation would call funky. Zanai is fond of international artistes like Adele but also Lata didi. In fact, it was Lata didi who pointed out that she has a beautiful voice. She's too young to get into Bollywood playback, she's focussed on her studies now but you never know, if she gets a good offer..."

Zanai, who's her son, Anand's daughter has been following the band's work and loved the idea of collaborating with them. "It was scary but grandma was there. I hope my song makes a difference in the way transgenders are treated in our society," says Zanai.
