The coming Friday will see a three-way clash between Hansal Mehta’s Aligarh, Abhishek Sharma’s Tere Bin Laden Dead Or Alive and Gerard Butler-starrer Gods Of Egypt. This must come as bad news to the other two Bollywood films as GOE is a big-budget ($140mn) movie spectacle.
Viacom18 Motion Pictures has just cut a deal with Lionsgate for the Indian marketing rights for the film, which releases in India on February 26 in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. The story sees Set (Butler) lock horns with Horus (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) with gargantuan monsters, giant serpents and a spectacular battle of the gods in the fray.
The sudden announcement of the release of this epic spectacle puts a question mark on the fate of the smaller Hindi releases. Not to mention, they already have Oscar hopeful The Revenant and the highly anticipated The Witch to contend with.
