Katrina Kaif is set to make
her debut at the Mumbai marathon this Sunday. The 32-year old actress
will be running for Ronnie and Zarina Screwvala's charity, Swades
Foundation.
“When Ronnie asked me to run for his Foundation, I agreed immediately. It was a cause worth running for. Also, Yasmin (her trainer Yasmin Karachiwala) has been keeping me on my toes. I feel fit enough to take on the challenge,“ says the actress.
Yasmin admitted that Katrina is not a runner but works out regularly and is extremely fit. “She will be doing the Dream Run (6 km) because not being a pro she can't suddenly take up the half or full marathon which requires special training. Katrina normally walks into the gym post 11 pm and for the next two hours I'm focussed on her,“ informs Yasmin.
The prep started with a walk-run combo which kicked off with a three-minute walk and a one minute-run, gradually decreasing the walk time while increasing the run time until they weren't walking at all. “Pilates is a definite part of her training as it adds to the core strength and takes care of imbalances. An add-on is altitude training, she wears a mask and trains in the gym like one would while climbing a mountain,“ Yasmin says.
Katrina adds, “Yes, we have been working on a mix of things, including ATS and Pilates; the idea is to improve the body's core strength and balance while building stamina, which I will need.“
She is on a strict diet plan. Breakfast is high on proteins and carbs. Lunch is fish and veggies, she snacks on fruits and nuts and dines on omelettes veggies and fruit. With Yasmin keeping a close eye, Kat is on the right track for this marathon effort.
