Another film escapes the Censor’s knife: Saala Khadoos. According to a sources, “The Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC) ordered three cuts, including the word, ‘Saala’ in the title.”

The source adds, “Producer Rajkumar Hirani requested his friends in the I&B (Information and Broadcasting) Ministry that the cuts be restored. Following which, the CBFC members was ‘told’ by the Ministry to allow the title. Two other cuts were also restored. One of the verbal cuts, a snide comment about a woman with an ‘itch between her legs.’ which the CBFC objected strongly to a woman’s sexuality being referred to in this crass way.” That comment has also been restored.

In defence, the word ‘saala,’ it has been accepted as part of Hindi cinema’s language. Thirty years ago, Dilip Kumar lip-synced to Saala Main To Saab Ban Gaya in Sagina. And five years ago, Sudhir Mishra’s film Yeh Saali Zindagi was certified and released.
