Both Dilwale and Bajirao Mastani opened to protests last week, with some of their shows being cancelled by certain organisations affiliated to political parties. Shows for Dilwale were cancelled at a multiplex in Jabalpur Mall after Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (the youth wing of the BJP) activists burnt the film’s posters. But despite him being a member of the BJP, Shatrughan Sinha has taken up for Bollywood. While talking about last week’s big releases, the star-politician posted a number of tweets.

He wrote, “Mob-ocracy over democracy is neither desirable nor expected, whether it’s Shah Rukh Khan or any one else’s film. Once government has approved and film released with the blessings of Censor Board, no one should try to stop screening it in the country. After all, it is not just the question of one star. The lives and daily bread and butter of thousands are involved in its making, distribution etc.. and depends on the release and success of films. Hope, wish and pray that good sense prevails on our people/society to understand and appreciate the situation - Whether it is Dilwale or Bajirao Mastani.” Now that’s why we nicknamed him Shotgun Sinha — he’s never been politically correct.
