With flood-ravaged Chennai only now beginning to limp towards normalcy, Tamil superstar Rajinikanth, who turns 65 on December 12, has cancelled plans to celebrate his birthday.
The superstar, whose legions of fans mark his big day every year with much pomp and show, urged them on Tuesday to refrain from doing so this year. He suggested that they help out in relief work instead.
The Enthiran actor had earlier met with Chief Minister, J Jayalalithaa, to hand over a cheque of Rs 10 crore towards the Chief Minister's Relief Fund for flood victims after the actor and several of his Kollywood counterparts recently came under fire for not coming forward to help.
Word is, Rajini fans are already in the midst of relief work in flood-hit areas. They have cancelled all the programmes planned for the superstar's birthday.
It is believed that Rajinikanth, who is currently shooting for his next Tamil film, Kabali, in which he will be seen in the role of a gangster, had saved the date for the official announcement of his film, Enthiran 2 (Robot 2).
The film was to kick start with a pooja on the occasion. However, the announcement has now been deferred indefinitely.
