Arjun Kapoor admits he now understands what goes into running a household
Nayandeep Rakshit (DNA; November 27, 2015)
Arjun Kapoor will be seen next in Ki And Ka which
deals with gender equality. He plays a house-husband to a working wife
Kareena Kapoor Khan. He says, “It deals with a very relevant topic of
role reversal. Relationships don’t change because of the profession of a
man or a woman. For example, if my wife is earning and I am not, it
doesn’t change the dynamics because she is still a woman and I am a
man.” About the character he is playing, he says, “I am playing the
character of a domesticated house husband, somebody who thrives on those
conditions and is fond of it. This is something that I have never
played before. Both on screen and off screen,” he laughs. He admits that
he was a little worried whether he would be able to pull it off but
director Balki gave him the much needed confidence. “Balki sir, is a
very simple story-teller. He’s very calm, patient and allowed me to
really enjoy myself in a role that is very unique.”
Makes you connect
Arjun believes that the audience will find the story very relatable. “It makes you connect. It’s a very sweet premise.” He admits that the film has made him see things from a new perspective and changed him in some ways, “I discovered small, small joys of life. You take your mother, your partner for granted sometimes. When they are running the house, we don’t understand their pain. Like my sister runs the house when I am working. From grocery shopping to everything else. Main jab ghar aata hoon toh sab taiyaar rehta hai toh kya kya jaata hai. While working on Ki And Ka, I realised that it is not easy. Especially in a country like ours, a women put in a lot of effort to balance their personal and professional lives and it’s way beyond a man’s capability. That’s what you will take from the film.”
Jodi with Bebo
He laughs, “I have also learnt to cook, thanks to this role. She’s been on my wishlist of actresses even before I knew I would become an actor someday.” Kareena is a few years older to Arjun and that true on-screen as well. Our pairing is very unique. Balki sir has genuinely cast us for the roles. So when you see it, you will realise how organic it has been. It’s not that yeh free hai aur yeh free hai toh project bana lete hain. He’s chosen us specifically he feels we are apt for the roles.”
