WILL TAMASHA END THE BAD LUCK OF RANBIR KAPOOR?

Tamasha is a film that is very crucial for Ranbir Kapoor. He was hailed as a superstar after the super success of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. But then he delivered 3 back to back flops – Besharam, Roy and Bombay Velvet. The last film turned out to be the biggest commercial disaster of Indian Cinema ever, arguably. Ranbir’s stardom took a beating although the trade and a vast section of audiences are still confident that Ranbir can anytime get back in the big league. If Tamasha works, it will be like a godsend for Ranbir as at least, the questions over his stardom will at least stop. And if one goes by the promos and buzz, the film looks like a safe bet and should succeed. It is directed by Imtiaz Ali and co-stars Deepika Padukone. Ranbir-Deepika (Bachna Ae Haseeno, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani) have worked together and so has Ranbir-Imtiaz (Rockstar) and Deepika-Imtiaz (Love Aaj Kal, Cocktail). But this is the first time Ranbir-Imtiaz-Deepika have come together and joining them are also producer Sajid Nadiadwala and music director A R Rahman.

The promo of the film evoked mixed reactions but the songs that came out have been loved. Matargashti has become a chartbuster and the rest of the songs are slowly picking up. The locales are excellent, especially of Corsica. Ranbir & Deepika have a crackling chemistry, as evident from the promos, and it’ll be fun to see them together. Also, there is also the ‘Tamasha’ bit in the film that should also make for a nice watch.

On the flipside, Imtiaz Ali’s films do become a bit ‘arty’ and it remains to be seen if Tamasha can become a huge commercial grosser. The opening will definitely be huge as Prem Ratan Dhan Payo has fallen and Spectre has underperformed as well. Hence, Tamasha gets a wide release tomorrow and can attract hordes of people. Also, there’s no major competition till December 18. Hence, Tamasha can have a free dream run till 3 weeks. However, if reports are bad, Tamasha can crash from Day 2 itself and nothing would be able to save the film. And then the questions over Ranbir’s stardom would become even more significant. Ranbir is a brilliant actor and deserves to stay. Hence, here’s hoping Tamasha turns out to be a well-made memorable film!
