The Central Board for Film Certification’s (CBFC) rejection of Kamal Swaroop’s documentary The Battle Of Benaras, based on the Narendra Modi-Arvind Kejriwal electoral fight in May 2014 has stirred a hornet’s nest.

Censor chief Pahlaj Nihalani accuses Kamal of sensation-mongering, “The Board viewed Swaroop’s documentary on a priority basis. We found it abusive towards a number of politicians while Arvind Kejriwal was praised to the skies. While we’ve nothing against an individual’s opinion on political matters he cannot foist those opinions in a documentary by damaging the reputation of individuals who hold responsible positions in the government.”
