When Bollywood Badshah
Shah Rukh Khan sought a futuristic spaceship for
himself, he called up DC Design, the famous design studio whom he has
faith in. Trusted automobile designer Dilip Chhabria has been
making vanity vans for SRK for a while now. And this time around, the
actor wanted something extraordinary to be married into
his already established product.
Everyone, who has had the fortune of spending time with SRK, knows that the man is a technocrat. And when it comes to his personal belongings, he is very specific about the design. He loves all things futuristic, but at the same time also wants to keep things clean and classy. Says Chhabria, “It was a challenge for us to marry functionality with the aesthetics of the whole bus and give him an exclusive product with super functionality.“
The main highlight of the bus is the all-futuristic asymmetrical interior lounge section, unlike any other bus in the world. The vehicle also has a driver cabin, master bedroom, fully equipped restroom, integrated makeup section within the lounge section with a floating divider to break up space without looking stuffy , four screens and a recliner in the makeup section. The unique LED-lit glass floor was specially developed along with the contoured wooden roof. All the surfaces were milled from CAD data so they have that precise finish. The front section of the bus hydraulically extends, increasing the lounge section. The bus includes high-end audio and video equipment along with several other gadgets. All switches, lights, sofas, beds, handles and doors are proprietary. The main elements used to develop it are glass, wood, acrylic, carbon and aluminum.
A total of 30,000 man hours and a timeline of two-and-a-half months is what it took to make SRK's whole piece of art.
