When bestselling novelist
Chetan Bhagat agreed to judge a dance reality show, he
insisted on two clauses - 'no dance' and 'no nudity' -- in his
contract. Now, he's all set to break the first one.
In an earlier interview to Mirror (March 24), he had said, “I am not a dancer but I'm a motivational speaker.“ Three months later, he's feeling confident enough to dance to some fun tapori chartbusters, including the title track of the Akshay Kumar starrer, Boss, in the finale of Nach Baliye Season 7. Explaining his decision to break the first clause, Chetan says, “For a while now, everyone has been insisting that I shake a leg on the show. So finally I decided to do a little jig. I have told my dance directors that this is their 'Taj Mahal' moment. They might have choreographed big stars but people are going to remember them for my performance.“
When prodded on the 'no nudity' clause Chetan said that this season, the show was a little too provocative, so he was just protecting himself. “And I don't think anybody wants me to break this clause, there's no demand from the viewers to see me shirtless,“ he laughs.
Meanwhile, Chetan's been rehearsing three hours daily for his finale act and admits that dancing is exhausting. “My wife, who is a good dancer but very camera shy, has been watching me practice and is wondering where the writer has gone. My kids are nervously wondering what their classmates will say,“ he chuckles.
And will the nach experience find its way into a book or a script in the near future? “Well, I have developed a new found respect for performers. Who knows, may be some day, I could write about reality shows and the emotions they bring to the fore,“ he says.
