Harbhajan Singh turns 35 today and will go public
about his relationship with girlfriend, actress Geeta Basra by making a
special appearance in her film Second Hand Husband, where she plays one
of the leads. She will announce him at the end as the man she chooses to
marry.
It wasn’t too much trouble convincing Harbhajan for the role, says director Smeep Kang, adding, “Bhaji is a friend. He happily agreed to a guest appearance in my other film Bhaji In Problem. In SHH, we had to show a suitable man for Geeta. Bhaji sportingly stepped in.”
Geeta, however, laughs off the special appearance as “nothing special”. She says, “The film needed a known face to step in as my character’s love interest. Bhaji agreed. That’s it.”
Off-screen marriage to follow? She laughs uncomfortably. “Don’t read so much into it. It’s a fun appearance, not a wedding announcement. When I get married, I won’t do it chup-chup ke. I’ll announce it from the rooftops. Arrey, Punjabi ladki hoon, Punjabi shaadi karungi khoob dhoom-dhaam se.”
So is Harbhajan that special someone or does she deny that, too? “I’ve never denied that Bhaji has a very special place in my life. Beyond that, if and when there’s more to be said, I’ll make the announcement without any hesitation.”
“So far, both Bhaji and Geeta have firmly denied marriage plans. But the entire cricket fraternity calls Geeta ‘Bhabhiji’. Their marriage is definitely happening some time soon,” says a source.
Recently, while promoting SHH on Comedy Nights With Kapil, she was ribbed about Harbhajan. She sighs, “There is no escaping that angle in my life. If I got a role for every time I am asked a question about him (Bhaji), I’d be the busiest actress in this country.”
