BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN IS A SUCCESS!

Many moviegoers were of the firm belief that Salman Khan can never do anything different. They were of the opinion that he’ll continue making dhaasu entry in his films, bash 20 people in go and play larger than life characters. Many of such viewers were silenced as Salman’s latest film Bajrangi Bhaijaan hit theatres. Salman plays a very real, humble character. Yes, he beats up baddies in a scene but it was not overdone. Also, in the pre-finale, he gets beaten up and he doesn’t try to attack as it would have looked fake and filmy. His entry scene, his romance with Kareena, his comic timing – everything was kept in check and at the same time, provided entertainment to the viewers. Salman Khan fans had no reason to grouse as the superstar as always won hearts but this time, maybe in a different way.

What’s heartening is the manner in which the film has performed at the box office. It is probably the fastest film to reach the 100 crore club. The collections have refused to drop in the weekdays. If all goes well, it can cross the Dhoom 3 collections of 262 crore and emerge as the second biggest grosser ever. And this is a film that isn’t a conventional entertainer or usual Salman Khan masala film! Once again, it is proved that quality entertainment is very important. Viewers should get emotionally involved with the content. Only then will the film become a very big hit and not to forget, be remembered for years. Earlier this year, Piku and Tanu Weds Manu Returns too rocked the box office solely because viewers loved the film a lot. Also, the more family-friendly is the film, the more it has chances of scoring big time. Bajrangi Bhaijaan is a complete family entertainer and has very little of action. Salman’s bond with the kid actor Harshaali Malhotra is beautiful and it’s something that all sections of audiences have loved. No wonder that the film is earning praise all over.

Hope Bajrangi Bhaijaan continues its dream run and hope many more filmmakers come forward and make such films with superstars!

WILL MASAAN WORK AT THE BOX OFFICE?

Anurag Kashyap’s assistant Neeraj Ghaywan is ready with his debut directorial venture, Masaan that releases tomorrow. The film started making waves from May onwards when it was won at the Cannes Film Festival. The trailer soon came out and it has impressed viewers. It stars Richa Chadda, Sanjay Mishra, Shweta Tripathi and Vicky Kaushal in leading roles and deals with three parallel tracks in Varanasi. The city is beautifully shot, by DOP Avinash Arun (director of acclaimed Marathi film Killa). The storyline seems interesting and it’s not dark or serious as it was perceived. The Vicky-Shweta track is immensely cute, as evident from the promos and the song ‘Tu Kisi Rail Si’.

What goes against the film is that the buzz is very limited. The press show and celebrity screenings have taken place and the response at these shows has been fantastic. But how much will that excite viewers to go to theatres remains to be seen. Also, the Bajrangi Bhaijaan wave will be super-strong in Week 2. It’ll be a task for an indie film like Masaan to even get sufficient shows in theatres. But if the response is extremely positive, Masaan can attract audiences from Day 2 and hopefully, can even turn out to be a profitable venture.
