WILL BAAHUBALI MAKE A MARK IN THE HINDI MARKET?
Director S S Rajamouli is one of the greatest directors of India today. Not a single film of his has flopped. He has made some excellent entertainers and hence enjoys a considerable fan following. The Telegu filmmaker tomorrow is now all set to unveil his most ambitious film till date, in fact one of the greatest films of Indian Cinema, Baahubali: The Beginning.
This is a 2-part period film starring Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Tamannaah Bhatia and Anushka Shetty. The film is simultaneously made in Tamil as well Telegu while it has been dubbed in Hindi and Malayalam. The Hindi version has been presented by Karan Johar and it’s a first time that he’s presenting a Southern film. The trailer of the film is epic and grand. No other Indian film has ever been shot and presented on such a large scale. The war scenes look stunning and at par with Hollywood standards. The actors look very convincing and real.
The film will definitely be a huge hit in Telugu and Tamil. However, the prospects of the Hindi version seem bleak. There’s not much awareness of the film in the Bollywood market. The actors aren’t famous for the Hindi speaking audience and hence the face value isn’t there. Also, the promotion of the Hindi version hasn’t been great. The Maharashtra belt is the only region where the film can work somewhat. In the other regions, this film will be washout unless the word of mouth is extraordinary. But even then, it’ll just have a week to recover as Bajrangi Bhaijaan will storm theatres next weekend.
The other major release is I Love NY, starring Kangana Ranaut and Sunny Deol. It was to release 2 years back and its promo was launched as well. But the film’s release was then withheld due to poor response to the trailers and reportedly, lack of interest from the distributors. Also, Kangana then wasn’t a huge actress. But now she is one of the leading actresses after the super success of Tanu Weds Manu Returns and Queen. Hence, the makers decided to cash in on her success and release the film. Kangana was livid and she even sent a legal notice to the makers. But it seems that her efforts proved futile. Needless to say, she has refused to promote the film and so has Sunny. Audiences obviously have realized this and also, the songs and promos are quite thanda. Hence, the film has no chance of success at the box office.
