Ranveer Singh on why he has cast aside his shenanigans
Raghuvendra Singh (TIMES LIFE; June 14, 2015)
You show affection for Deepika Padukone publicly. But she always shies away...
(Laughs) Basically, I'm a badmaash and mastikhor (naughty) and badly behaved too while she is not. That's the long and short of it. I am an expressive person and she is not. I'm comfortable behaving in a certain way in public. I'm impulsive. I follow my instincts in a particular situation. Baad mein mujhe Deepika se sunna padta hai!
When you are planning to settle down?
I'm going to turn 30 in July. I've begun to mull over things. Earlier, I had a different take on relationships, marriage and family. But I have matured. Earlier I was uneasy at the rate at which divorces were happening amongst professionals, too many people vying for the same things... I believed it was kalyug. I believed people were happier being single and that marriage was redundant. But in the past three years some experiences have changed my outlook. Today, I believe in monogyny, I believe in marriage.
I believe that the best thing one can be is an honourable family man. Also I read something which left an impact on me, “Success is measured as the beneficial footprint that you leave on society... It's not about how much money you have but how many lives you can touch.“ Till about three years ago, I didn't want to grow up. I would not even behave my age. I found it easier to be an idiot. Now I think deep, I don't resist the predisposition towards intimacy; I don't resist the predisposition to lateral thought, conflict and argument. I've become interested in world news, world issues. Earlier, I was carefree, reckless and silly. I didn't care at all. Now I do.
Do you have an image of a wife?
She should be a warm, genuine, positive and affectionate person. She could be anything as long as she has these qualities.
Dil Dhadakne Do is about dysfunctional re lationships. Have you witnessed such relationships around you? In this industry?
It's not just in the industry. Showbiz is perceived that way. The world is like that. Also, I am an outsider. So I don't know too many people here. Honestly, I can't comment.
You consider yourself an outsider?
Yes, I am. And there's nothing wrong with it. I don't carry extra baggage. I can define myself. As an insider, you get your first chance easily. Whereas an outsider has to struggle to get a break. But I have been born and raised in Bandra, the heart of the film industry. We had industry kids in school, in my recreation club. You tend to know industry people. But I had to earn my first opportunity on my merit.
