Kangana Ranaut is on a high post the release of Tanu
Weds Manu Returns. The collections are still soaring and the compliments
are still pouring in. However, she is also in the news for various
reasons ranging from delaying film schedules to interfering in the
film’s editing to finally, wanting credit for writing the dialogues and
cold-shouldering Deepika Paukone at the success party of her own film.
Here, she clears the air about all the controversies.
Charge 1: Wanted her edit to release
It seems the actress demanded that she be allowed to edit Sujoy Ghosh’s film The Devotion of Suspect X, which led to her ouster from the project.
Kangana’s defense: “My contract has strictly no such clause. I do months of workshops for most of my films and I like to stricture my characters. We all sit together and everyone gives their inputs. My directors like me for that and I love that about myself. If I am not going to give thought to my character, who will? With Ekta’s film, I had no such clause. We both agreed to work with a bound script. I asked her if there would be changes after the script was finalised and my scenes were shot. Ekta honestly told me there could be. I openly said I would have a problem with it. I was uncomfortable. What’s wrong with saying what’s on your mind openly? Editing is a tough job and requires a special set of skills. Why should I do anybody else’s job? No one likes that. If I can do my work properly, that’s more than enough. Just because I’ve done a filmmaking course, doesn’t mean I’m going to start taking credit for everything I suggest inputs for.”
Charge 2: Wanting credit as dialogue writer
Kangana supposedly rubbed Katti Batti director Nikhil Advani the wrong way when she demanded credit for writing the dialogues in her next film.
Kangana’s defense: She got credit for the dialogues in Queen. “There are stories doing the rounds that suggest I am halting the film’s shoot. Why should I do something like that? In fact, I didn’t even know that I was getting credit for the dialogues I wrote in Queen. Vikas Bahl decided to surprise me by adding my name to the credit roll. Now why he gave it to me is something only he will be able to reply. As for Katti Batti, you can check with Nikhil if any such thing has ever happened.”
Charge 3: Snubbing Deepika at party
Deepika Padukone was invited to the TWMR success bash by host Krishika Lulla. As soon as DP walked in, Kangana walked out.
Kangana’s defense: “People are so affected by my success. Right now, I feel like I can do any amount of damage to the film industry. I don’t know why so many people have issues with my success. I am in Manali, spending time with my parents and my sister Rangoli’s phone is incessantly ringing asking her if Kangana did this or Kangana did that. It’s so weird.”
