MUMBAI MIRROR (June 20, 2015)
The government is looking for part time board members for the public broadcaster, Prasar Bharati. Kajol is one of the seven names being considered, along with Anoop Jalota, Ashok Tandon, who was the media advisor of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and journalist Minhaz Merchant.
Apparently, the Prasar Bharati Act states that its board should have six part-time members. Currently, there are only two. Sources said that the vacancies have been open for nearly a year since some of the earlier members resigned after the government at the Centre changed.
The Act also states that these members have to be persons of eminence in public life. The members' term of office is six years, but onethird of the members can resign after two years.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has recently given security clearance to all the seven names recommended by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry. These names will now be sent to a committee, which will include the I&B secretary and the chairman of the press council of India. Vice-President Hamid Ansari will head the committee.
The committee will then choose four people to join the board as parttime members.
