Producer Madhu Mantena and designer Masaba Gupta started dating early this year. Six months later, they are man and wife. The couple formalised their relationship in a Mumbai court on Tuesday.

The registration was followed by a late-night dinner with the Shandaar trio -- Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and director Vikas Bahl -- and close family. The newlyweds were clueless about the bash orchestrated by Madhu's dad who'd flown in all his son's cousins and friends from Hyderabad. Madhu was thrilled as it has been a while since he connected with his extended clan.

Masaba's mother, actress Neena Gupta, had to pinch herself again and again, to convince herself she was attending her daughter's wedding. "Madhu and Masaba were so confused about where to get married, kabhi it was Europe, kabhi the Carribean! Finally, I told them to get the relationship formalised in a court first," she laughs.

Busy with her play, Mera Woh Matlab Nahin Tha, Neena has had no time for a heart-to-heart chat with Masaba. Her only advice to Masaba is, "Just make the marriage work."

Choreographer-director Ahmed Khan was believed to be on the select guest list too. But he revealed that he'd been clicked returning from his son's birthday party.

"Azaan and I share a birthday. He turned 14, I turned 41, and my wife, Shaira, insisted on a quiet dinner. How were we to know that Madhu and Masaba would choose to toast their union at the same suburban hotel?" Ahmed laughs.
