A novel pairing of major
stars is known to up the ante for the film. Ranbir
Kapoor and Anushka Sharma have generated quite a buzz for Bombay Velvet,
in their debut collaboration. From the look of it, the kind of
chemistry the two actors share, it wouldn't be wrong to say that their
pairing was long overdue.
Ranbir plays Johnny Balraj, who's passionately and obsessively in love with Rosie Noronha, essayed by Anushka. Her deputation to the club Bombay Velvet, owned by Kaizad Khambatta (Karan Johar), to find the negative that holds the evidence to a deadly crime committed by the two men, serves as an apt dramatic twist in the tale.
As their romance blooms, Rosie's mysterious past seems to haunt her present. What will be the final outcome, forms the crux of the story. About Johnny and Rosie's romance being brought alive by Ranbir and Anushka, director Anurag Kashyap says, his lead pair's chemistry is “just too hot to handle“.
He elaborates, “They really compliment each other in the film. Johnny and Rosie's romance is very innocent and child-like. They are obsessed, protective and passionately possessive about each other. In a way, they create an island for themselves despite being in the middle of a world full of crime, corruption and deceit. They can be pure only when they are with each other. Ranbir and Anushka have done a fabulous job of bringing Johnny and Rosie's love story to life because they are such fantastic actors themselves.“
Bombay Velvet, produced by Phantom Films and Fox Star Studios, releases May 15.
