Anurag Basu’s television comeback with Chokher Bali is
happening, even if his Jagga Jasoos has to wait. And this telefilm he
designed has turned out so well that it might now make it to the big
screen as well.
His adaptation of the Rabindranath Tagore classic is being made for Epic channel. Says the telefilm’s leading lady Radhika Apte, “When Anurag offered me the role, I just wanted to do it. I didn’t care which medium it was for. He is a director for whom I’d do two shots in a short film. And what a mindblowing script it is. But now that the film is complete, we all feel it should be shown in movie theatres. It is exquisite.”
And it might just get turned into a feature film, if all goes well. If this happens, it becomes his next theatrical release ahead of RK-starrer Jagga Jasoos.
The last screen adaptation of Chokher Bali, was the late Rituparno Ghosh’s film featuring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
EARLY DAYS
Anurag started his career on TV directing several episodes of Tara in 1993. He also directed a large number of episodes of Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi before branching out into filmmaking.
