Nargis Fakhri has not participated in a marathon so far, but feels that it is great from a goal-setting point of view. “You need to work towards building up stamina and speed management. Health benefits are, of course, great bonuses,” she says flashing a grin.

The leggy beauty loves running, especially outdoors. Don’t be surprised if you find her jogging across hilly terrains or parks. Not in Mumbai though! “In a city, I am limited to running on the treadmill at the gym. I ensure I at least do a 30- or 40-minute run on the treadmill,” says Nargis. Not only is it a part of her exercise regime, it also serves as a break for the actress who catches up on her favourite music and films on the treadmill.

While running gives her the kickstart to spring into action mode, Nargis combines it with other elements like yoga and zumba. Her fitness mantra is simple. “You are what you eat, say and do. Healthy eating, positive words/thoughts and forward and determined movement are all important and ascertain your state of being,” she says.

Her message to the women who will be participating in the marathon is: Practise a lengthy jog to keep the heart rate steady and get the breathing right. She also urges them to work on increasing speed and distance and finding a way to manage it effectively.

“Running is probably the only time we as people and especially, women get time to be ourselves without a care in the world. Having an initiative like the ICan Marathon, that not only makes this a competitive endeavour celebrating womanhood but also builds a worthy cause of empowering them, is fantastic. My best wishes to the entire team behind it and all the participants for the marathon on March 8,” she signs off.
