WILL AYUSHMANN FINALLY GET LUCKY WITH DUM LAGA KE HAISHA?

After the super-success of Vicky Donor, Ayushmann Khurrana has had a difficult time. Nautanki Saala underperformed, Bewakoofiyaan was a flop while Hawaizaada, released last month, turned out to be a commercial disaster. Now he’s back with another release, Dum Laga Ke Haisha, and it remains to be seen whether it can bring the actor back into the spotlight.

Dum Laga Ke Haisha is a Yash Raj Films venture but it’s the first film not to be produced by Aditya Chopra. Instead, it’s produced by Band Baaja Baaraat director Maneesh Sharma and directed by Sharat Kataria (writer of Bheja Fry). Ayushmann’s co-star is Bhumi Pednekar, who like Parineeti Chopra, used to work in Yash Raj Films. The promo of the film is hilarious and the film is about a guy who gets married to an overweight woman. It is set in Rishikesh-Haridwar and that too in the 90s. Hence, the film relates with the common man in many ways. One of the greatest strengths of the film is its music. Usually, the songs in period films don’t sound like they belong to the era in which the film is set in. But Dum Laga Ke Haisha is an exception. Its 2 songs especially – Dard Kararaa and Tu – are extremely melodious and sound as if they belong to a film of the 90s. Both tracks are sung by Kumar Sanu and he also features in the film in a cameo. Another special appearance is of Sonakshi Sinha, reportedly.

Dum Laga Ke Haisha was to release on April 24 but the makers preponed the release to February 27 just last month. Hence, the film hasn’t even got a proper one month window for promotions. Yet, Dum Laga Ke Haisha has been noticed, although it hasn’t generated tremendous excitement. However, it can grow tremendously thanks to word of mouth. Also, it has no competition till NH10’s release on March 13. Secondly, it’s made on reasonable costs.

The other releases of the week are Ab Tak Chhappan 2 and Hey Bro. While the former looks interesting and might work in mass centres, the latter looks terrible and is bound to flop.
