WILL BALKI-BACHCHAN MAGIC WORK ONCE AGAIN WITH SHAMITABH?

Director R Balki debuted with the film Cheeni Kum in 2007 which was loved for its superb writing especially. Paa, released in 2009, was equally great and viewers were stunned to see Amitabh Bachchan’s unrecognizable look. And now Balki is back with Shamitabh, which like his previous 2 films, also star Amitabh, along with Dhanush and Akshara Haasan. The promotions of the film started very late but have been great nevertheless. The audio trailer was an interesting idea but the content was quite weird! Then, instead of coming up with the trailer, they unveiled the song Piddly. It didn’t give out any idea about the film but made for an interesting watch. And then came the teaser! It was interesting and the theatrical trailer was even better. It raised hopes for the film but at the same time, it didn’t give out much about the premise. All 3 actors look great and it’ll be great to see especially the chemistry of Amitabh and Dhanush. Songs are quite novel (Sannata, Lifebuoy, Piddly of course, etc) and should pick up once viewers see the film.

The buzz for the film isn’t widespread but nevertheless, it will ensure the film starts on a good or average note at least. After that, it’s the content that will decide if it can sustain. It has no competition as such with the previous week releases underperforming or failing miserably. Balki has always given interesting, out of the box films and here’s hoping Shamitabh fulfills expectations!
