Moviegoers across the world were shattered when Yash Raj Films announced that the uninterrupted run of their classic film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge came to an end on Thursday February 19, 2015. The film had recently completed 1000 weeks and it was celebrated with gusto. Also, an assurance was given to the moviegoers that the film, that regularly attracted audiences in sufficient numbers, would continue to be screened at Maratha Mandir.

As per the official press release of YRF, "Post the 1000 week celebrations last December, the theatre had requested YRF to prepone the DDLJ morning show to 9:15 AM instead of 11:30 AM as it was becoming difficult for the cinema to accommodate multiple new releases every week with just 3 regular shows. Of course YRF obliged from 13th Feb 2015. However, while the theatre management was happy to continue the film for as long as it continued to draw in the audiences, owing to logistical issues of their staff having to work inordinately long hours to accommodate an additional early morning show, it was mutually decided to end the films historic & record breaking run"

Manoj Desai, who runs the theatre, was told that it's unimaginable to know that DDLJ won't be playing in Maratha Mandir. He reacted, "Even I can't believe that DDLJ's run has come to an end. But it's a call jointly taken by us and YRF. And also, since DDLJ was being screened almost 4 times in a week on TV, it was getting slightly difficult to attract viewers. But I am happy that we created a record. We have made a lot of sacrifices to make it happen"

When asked about the last show of the film, he said, "There were 210 viewers in the theatre, that has total 1107 seats". And talking about the plans from tomorrow, he replied, "From February 20th, Monsoon would be screened at 12:30, 3:30 pm and Badlapur will be shown at 6:30 and 9:30 pm"
