The upcoming film, MSG: The Messenger of God, starring "rockstar baba" Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Insan, which was to open this Friday, has hit a roadblock. The examining committee of the Central Board of Film Certification refused to clear the film and last evening, the revising committee too rejected it, saying it will create "law and order" issues.
Confirming the news, CBFC member Nandini Sardesai told Mirror, "All seven members agreed that in its entirety, this film cannot be shown as it not only promotes blind faith and superstition, but also hurts religious sentiments and could cause communal problems."
Now, the only option left for the makers of MSG: The Messenger of God is to approach the Tribunal, which has a retired High Court judge on board. Said Sardesai, "As of now, the film will not release this Friday."
She groused that it shows a living man perform miracles. "How can they promote someone who has criminal cases registered against him in this way? If it was a fantasy with Superman doing all this, it would have been fine but this is about a living person," she argued.
She revealed that the makers were willing to cut certain scenes but pointed out that the Board's problem is with the film's message that encourages superstition.
Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Insan, founder of the socio-spiritual organisation, Dera Sacha Sauda, is currently facing charges of mass castration which is being investigated by the CBI. He is the star of MSG: The Messenger of God which he has also written, directed, filmed and composed the score for.
