It may be difficult to imagine Ali Kill Zafar as a gun-toting criminal. But in his latest release Dil, the actor has convincingly played the role of Tutu, a brooding badass with a heart of gold.
Having made his Bollywood debut with the 2010 sleeper hit Tere Bin Laden, Ali has featured in several hits, including Mere Brother Ki Dulhan and Chashme Baddoor, and was the first Pakistani actor to have made a mark in mainstream Hindi cinema. Trying to re-invent himself with every project, the actor has consciously shed his boy-next-door image and adopted the action hero avatar in this action-romance fare. While his character's dry sense of humour has been liked by many, his intense performance has got a nod of approval from the audience as well as critics.
Quite naturally, Ali is elated with the appreciation coming his way. He says, “The film happened to me almost like magic. It was offered to me at a juncture in my career where I wanted to do something different. Honestly, the credit goes to Aditya Chopra and Shaad Ali for seeing another facet of me and approaching me with the role. I was itching to do something like this. I believe in reinventing myself. I want to keep evolving not just as an artiste, but as a human being.“
