Mira, the New York-based Indian filmmaker, has directed the three previous films which were penned by Sooni. Now, she will produce Sooni's next directorial (she had made her directorial debut with Little Zizou in 2008), titled 3 ½. The duo, known for creating emotional pieces centred on the Indian Diaspora, plans to travel in time with this one.
A source close to the director told Mirror, “It's a film, partly set in the immediate present and partly set in the late 2050s. It's an unconventional love triangle which turns into an intriguing thriller. Mira and Sooni have been brainstorming on this for several years now. It's one of their most ambitious collaborations and will be made on a sweeping scale.“
Confirming this, Sooni told Mirror, “3 ½ is a unique story that will be a game changer. It takes place in 2015 and 2057. Three characters traverse both time periods and at the centre of the film is their love story.“
Both Mira and Sooni will be in Goa in November to attend the National Film Development Corporation's (NFDC) Film Bazaar. That's where their search for international partners for the film will begin. Said an NFDC spokesperson, “Among 24 other titles Mira and Sooni's film will be a part of NFDC's Film Bazaar.“
Sooni said: “Our collaboration began in 1986 and continues to this day. We have a track record of making films that are deeply rooted in India and have an international presence.“ She added, “We hope to find co-production partners from around the world at the NFDC market because this is a film intended for both an Indian as well as an international audience of young people from around the world.“
