Lara Dutta was supposed to return from a three-year maternity leave with Chalo China, the sequel of her first home production, Chalo Dilli.
In an earlier interview to Mirror (February 24), she had sounded upbeat about taking the franchise forward. "Chalo China will be shot in multiple locations across Asia, including Thailand, Malaysia and China. This film is not set in India," she had said. But those travel plans have been put on hold for now.
Mirror has learnt that Lara, who was last seen in a special appearance in Farhan Akhtar's Don 2 in 2011, will now make her comeback with a film which will be co-produced by her tennis star husband, Mahesh Bhupathi, along with debutant producer Virender Arora.
Titled Abhi Nahi Toh Kabhi Nahi, the comedy of errors revolves around a quirky Indian family. "Lara plays Pankaj Kapur's daughter, a well-to-do small town girl who runs a cafe. Her life turns topsy turvy when she falls in love with Kay Kay Menon's character, an aspiring hotelier," revealed a source close to the production.
The source added that Lara was bowled over by the script and instantly agreed to come on board. "It's Kay Kay's most romantic film yet and a perfect vehicle for the former Miss Universe to get back in Bollywood," said the source.
The film boasts of an ensemble cast and negotiations are underway with several other actors.
Abhi Nahi Toh Kabhi Nahi goes on floors in December and is expected to be shot extensively in North India.
