Last year, soon after announcing that his next film, Floating Gardens, will be set in India and feature Indian actors, Oscar-winning Iranian director Majid Majidi had flown down to Goa to inaugurate IFFI’s ‘Soul of Asia’ segment. However, he soon left the country, leaving several media persons disappointed, reportedly owing to health issues.

Now Mirror has learnt that the director of iconic films like Children Of Heaven, Songs Of Sparrows and Baran, will be back in India towards the end of this year. The director wishes to avoid attention and the details of the visit are being kept strictly under wraps for the moment. The film is expected to flag off in January 2015.

According to a source close to the production, a team of six has already started the recce. “They were here for 12 days and visited Nainital, Jaipur and Mumbai. They have shortlisted some locations too. This core team has worked with Majidi earlier and understands his sensibility. They left last week,” added the source.
Majidi is currently working on the post production of his upcoming film, Prophet Muhammed, in Munich. After wrapping that up, he will fly down to India to prep for Floating Gardens.

He will finalise the locations and the cast along with his producers, Shareen Mantri Kedia and Kishor Arora, who waited two years for his nod. Buzz is, he’s looking for an Indian lead for this big budget, Hindi-English bi-lingual.

If sources are to be believed, the Kai Po Che! actor might star in a project helmed by acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi. Majidi, whose film, Children of Heaven, was the first film from Iran to receive an Oscar nomination, had come down to Indian in October last year and a source says that it was during this visit that he met with Sushant Singh Rajput.

The filmmaker had apparently come down to finalise a few things with regards to his film, Floating Gardens, that is being produced by India’s Eye Candy Films.

Majidi reportedly plans to make a movie with a complete Indian cast and its script has already been finalised; the filmmaker is apparently looking to start casting for the same. Says the source, “Leading Bollywood technicians and some actors, including Sushant, met Majidi when he visited India last year. Sushant has been in touch with the filmmaker ever since. It seems that Majidi is keen on casting him in the film.” While Sushant did not reply to our message, a source close to the actor says, “Yes, Sushant had met Majidi in October, but nothing’s been decided so far.”

Producer Shareen Mantri of Eye Candy Films says, “Casting will be done only when Majidi is here next.” It is being said that Majidi, scheduled to arrive in the country next month to start the first round of auditions, has pushed his trip ahead on account of being busy with the post-production of his upcoming film, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
