WILL RAJA NATWARLAL TASTE SUCCESS?
Emraan Hashmi is one of the most bankable stars today. But he has faltered whenever he’s tried to do unconventional and arthouse cinema like Shanghai (great film but underperformer at the box office), Ghanchakkar and Ek Thi Daayan. But now he’s back into the masala film territory with Raja Natwarlal. With this film, he also reunites with Kunal Deshmukh, who gave Emraan hits like Jannat and Jannat 2.
Raja Natwarlal is a con film and a revenge drama. Emraan plays the sly conman, Humaima Malick is his ladylove, Paresh Rawal acts like his guru and his target is Kay Kay Menon. The promo looks interesting and promises loads of drama and entertainment. Emraan looks great and seems to be enjoying his act. Humaima too looks stunning but the chemistry shared by Emraan and Paresh seems more interesting!
Sadly, the music hasn’t caught on although the songs (by Yuvan Shankar Raja, Illaiyaraja’s son) are quite nice. The buzz for the film is there but it’s not as high as Raaz 3 or maybe Jannat 2. However, Raja Natwarlal releases on Ganesh Chaturthi, which is a holiday in most parts of India. This would definitely help the film get a great opening. Also, it has no competition which is great in today’s times – in fact, except Rush, as many as 9 films of Emraan have been solo releases from 2011 till present day, including Raja Natwarlal! This is phenomenal and also talks highly of Emraan’s star power. If the response is positive, Raja Natwarlal can have a dream run, at least till Mary Kom’s release. Let’s hope this conman entertains big time!

MARDAANI WINS HEARTS!
Rani Mukerji-starrer Mardaani has been loved by almost all. The film touches upon the issue of human trafficking but doesn’t make a mockery of it. It’s hard-hitting, fast-paced and packs in a lot in just 113 minutes. Rani is awesome but it’s Tahir Raj Bhasin, the antagonist, who is the big surprise of the film.
The collections on the first day weren’t encouraging. But as days passed, the collections increased significantly. The film has sustained well in the weekdays. The film has been tax exempted in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. If Delhi and Maharashtra also follow suit, it will tremendously help boost the collections.
Mardaani is an honest effort and needs to be supported. If you have not seen it yet, go for it in theatres. Make sure this film makes money so that more and more such films are made!
