Kunal Deshmukh has directed all his four films with Emraan Hashmi and of the four, three of them — Jannat, Tum Mile and now Raja Natwarlal — have been shot in the city of Cape Town. It can’t be a coincidence and we decided to ask both Kunal and Emraan their reasons. Talking to us, Kunal said, “Cape Town is a really easy city to shoot in. They have studios, cameras and there is no start-up time. You can just come here and shoot. Also, unlike in Mumbai, where you will find people troubling you for haftas, in Cape Town, they are really shoot-friendly and you can shoot anywhere.” Emraan added, “It is one of the most beautiful cities with great vibe and energy. You can go to a nightclub and also have a lazy day on the beach at Camps Bay with great sushis at Umi. This is my 8th trip as I have also shot Crook, Raaz 2, Murder and now, Mr X, apart from the films with Kunal and I tend to come here a day or two before my shoots to just unwind. I am so comfortable here that I may just land up buying my own place here. The city is multicultural and welcomes all kinds of people.” On a lighter note in their earlier visits over the years, Emraan and Kunal always do a ‘gang-out’ with key members of the crew at ‘Mavericks’, the top strip club of Cape Town, which gets Kunal blushing every time Emraan pulls his leg about it.
