AI-generated “mini version” of Shah Rukh Khan’s King using leaked clips and paparazzi footage goes viral

Shah Rukh Khan

Mohar Basu (MID-DAY; May 21, 2026)

What do established filmmakers and production houses fear the most? Financial losses? Bad publicity? Ballooning budgets? Not quite. A footage leak, perhaps. But what the makers of Shah Rukh Khan’s King certainly didn’t see coming was an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-generated mini version of their film going viral online, stitched together from leaked visuals, paparazzi clips, and stills, just days after footage from the climax shoot surfaced on the internet. Now that’s the kind of nightmare no one in the industry was prepared for.

The 15-minute fan-made video used AI tools to recreate transitions and claimed to offer audiences a “mini version” of director Siddharth Anand’s film before its release. According to insiders, both fans and the production team rapidly mass-reported the footage, leading to its removal from several platforms.

A source close to the production told mid-day, “The team was already upset after stills from the climax leaked. Before that, sequences from the Cape Town schedule went viral where Deepika and SRK shot a song. The line production team was extremely careful but when someone like SRK shoots in public, it’s impossible to trace the source of the leak. But the AI edit crossed a line because it attempted to recreate the narrative of the film.”

The insider added that security around the current schedule near Ghodbunder Road, on the outskirts of Mumbai, has now tightened significantly. “This set in Mumbai is a busy area, so removing phone access won’t help much. But movement in the action portions and crucial scenes has become extremely restricted.”

King is now nearing completion, with “nearly two months of shoot pending”. “King is in its final leg. A lot of patchwork, action inserts, and another schedule remains to be done, with VFX work going on simultaneously. The film is looking to wrap by July-end,” the source revealed.

Director Siddharth Anand’s appeal
“Please do not post or circulate any leaked multimedia from the sets of ‘King’. The team is working around the clock to ensure the best cinematic experience for everyone. Let us wait for the surprise on the big screen.”

I am relieved that police traced the troll who has been threatening me and my friends online-Abhinav Shukla

abhinav shukla, bigg boss 14 eviction

Neha Maheshwri (BOMBAY TIMES; September 14, 2022)

Celebrities often choose to turn a blind eye to trolls instead of feeding them. Abhinav Shukla, too, had done the same in the past. However, last year, the actor was forced to approach the police against a troll, who had been targeting him and his female friends for a long time. The troll has now been traced by the Patiala Police and investigations are on.

Abhinav tells us, “I am relieved, more for the sake of my female friends, that the troll has been traced. For the past year, he had been targeting me and tagging all my female friends, family members, and acquaintances, especially those with verified accounts. His messages were nasty, vilifying and criminal in nature. He accused my female friends of having an affair with me, threatened to throw acid on them, and had them run over.”

Abhinav initially dismissed it as posts by just another upset social media user. However, he soon realised that things were getting out of hand after he started making multiple accounts to troll him. He says, “My friends brought it to my notice and asked me to take action. I didn’t pay much heed thinking that it was one of the hazards of being a celeb. However, I soon started to wonder who was so idle in life that he could troll me for a year non-stop like he was on a mission.”

That’s when Abhinav approached the Mumbai Cyber Crime Branch. He says, “I reported the matter to the Mumbai Cyber Crime Cell via a written complaint on their portal in May 2021 while I was in Cape Town for Khatron Ke Khiladi. I requested them to take cognisance of the online complaint followed by a written complaint, but they didn’t lodge an FIR. Sensing that time was of the essence, I registered a complaint in my hometown with the Patiala police on September 13 last year. They filed an FIR under sections 66 CE and 67A. The police have finally traced the person, who is a resident of Cuttack (Odisha). They questioned him and his family but his motive is still not clear. It could be a case of paid trolls, who may have been hired by someone who doesn’t like me and doesn’t want me to prosper. The police are investigating the case. I am relieved.”

For the first time in the history of Khatron Ke Khiladi, we’ve not had to abort any tasks midway-Rohit Shetty

Rohit Shetty on Khatron Ke Khiladi: We’ve pushed the envelope this year

Turning host for the seventh time on Khatron Ke Khiladi 12, Rohit Shetty on what makes this season special
Letty Mariam Abraham (MID-DAY; July 19, 2022)

Think action movies, and the first name that pops in our head is Rohit Shetty. It is only natural that the makers of Fear Factor Khatron Ke Khiladi would then rope him in as a host instead of tapping into other stars for this action reality show. While this is the seventh season that the filmmaker has taken up, he claims that the excitement of the show has not dwindled away in all these years.  In fact, the show has only upped the ante every time. “The show has changed a lot over the years. I keep learning, and try to upgrade myself every season,” says Shetty, who is particularly proud of the contestants on board for the 12th edition of the show.

Unlike the contestants in the previous seasons, the latest set of participants, as per Shetty, have unrelenting spirit. “For the first time in the history of KKK, we’ve not had to abort any tasks mid-way. This has been the best lot. You can barely count a few aborts,” he explains, adding that the scale and level of difficulty on the show has increased. Ideally, every season, the makers alter some of the stunts, but crowd favourites are retained.

“Every time we try to push the envelope and expand the scale. Having said that, besides new stunts, the show will also have a lot of humour. Contestants Nishant [Bhat] and Rajeev [Adatia] have been leaving everyone in splits,” says the filmmaker-host.

But ask him to pick a favourite and Shetty is quick to say no. “I think all are my favourites because they keep surprising me at every turn. Usually, right at the start of the season, a few contestants manage to stand out, but that is not the case this year,” he adds.

For the last many years, the show has been shot in Cape Town and has not deviated from the location. Shetty accepts that it is one of his favourite locations for the show. “The team here is fabulous. It is this very team that now comes and works in India for some of my films and a few others. In fact, they also take care of south movies,” says Shetty, adding that there is also a sentimental connection with Cape Town.

“The city is fabulous, but there is an emotional connection with it because this is where we started.”

For Khatron Ke Khiladi, I have a 23 kilo bag of only food in it-Aneri Vajani

Aneri Vajani: I’m carrying a 23-kilo bag of food

Aneri Vajani on going into Khatron Ke Khiladi 12, armed with confidence and the comfort of homemade food
Letty Mariam Abraham (MID-DAY; June 28, 2022)

There’s not a mean bone in Aneri Vajani. She believes that if she is nice to people, she will be treated the same way. But Khatron Ke Khiladi 12 is hardly a place for niceties. With surroundings that push your physical limits and tasks that test your mental strength, the show can build or break your resilience. “How can you fear something you’ve never done,” asks Vajani, as she gears up for her first reality show. For moral support, her mother has sent her a bag full of home-cooked food, she laughs. The actor talks about her fears and hopes before heading to Cape Town.

Edited excerpts from the interview.

You were never one to do reality shows. How did you agree to take up Khatron Ke Khiladi?
There is a correct time for everything, and I was waiting for the right vibe. Additionally, my mom wanted me to do some reality shows. She wanted me to go out there and let the world know the real Aneri.

What were some of your inhibitions before signing on the dotted line?
I believe I am one of the most easy-going people in the industry. I don’t travel with an entourage. I want people to be nice to me because I would like to be treated the way I treat them. When they told me I may not be able to do my hair and make-up, I was more than thrilled. I was okay when they told me I won’t have a vanity van. Then, they told me about food issues, and I assured them that my mother will send over lots of food. In fact, I told them that they could come to me if they needed food [laughs]. However, [what shook me] was that I would’ve to stay away from my family for two months. I usually get homesick in two days.

So, what’s special in these dabbas?
We are allowed three bags of 23 kilos each, and two 7-kilo handbags. Of these, I have a 23-kilo bag of only food in it [laughs]. Name a food item, and I have it in my bag. My mother was sure that after two days I would crave pav bhaji, so she vacuumed the dish and sent it with me [laughs]. When we went to Mauritius for Beyhadh, everyone was laughing at me for carrying a bag filled with food. However, when we were stranded at a place, I removed my thepla and started eating. People lost their sh*t. They called me Annapurna devi and begged me for food.

Are you nervous about the show?
I am scared that this is a new journey. Aneri with no filter has never gone and [faced the camera]. I hope people enjoy my humour. Also, I am a bit of a cry baby because I am an emotional person. If I am angry, I will cry. If I am upset, I cry, but I hope I can manage it this time.

Did any task from the previous seasons freak you out?
For the past nine years, I have only worked. I’ve gone from home to the set, and back. I have never explored the adventurous side of me, which was one of the key reasons to [come on board]. Even if I am unable to do something, at least I will know that I tried. I don’t want to fear something and regret it in the future.

Have you made any friends in the group?
I don’t know anyone personally, but I have met Sriti [Jha] a few times. She is sweet. I also know Mohit [Malik], because his Kulfi Kumar Bajewala director [Ravi Bhushan] helmed my show, Nisha Aur Uske Cousins. I met Shivangi [Joshi] during a party. I believe if you are nice to people, they will be nice to you. After all, this is KKK, not Bigg Boss.

Any apprehensions about working with Rohit Shetty?
Rohit sir is as unpredictable as I am. So, if he does something out of the ordinary, I won’t be surprised. He can make you cry, laugh, and mentor you at the same time. So, I am looking forward to meeting him and having him guide me.

Sidharth Malhotra, Rohit Shetty wrap up Mumbai leg of Indian Police Force; to resume shoot in July in north India

Cops go into overdrive before break

Mohar Basu (MID-DAY; May 28, 2022)

There has been much intrigue around Rohit Shetty’s Indian Police Force ever since the filmmaker announced his maiden web series. Sidharth Malhotra, Shilpa Shetty Kundra and Vivek Oberoi have been busy filming the Amazon Prime Video offering in pockets of Mumbai since mid-April. It has now been learnt that the team concluded its Mumbai schedule yesterday, following a three-day shoot at a lounge in Parel.

A source reveals, “Some high-octane combat sequences were shot over the past three days. Rohit has now called for a long break as he heads out to Cape Town to host the 12th season of Khatron Ke Khiladi.”

The filmmaker will be back by July, post which the cast and crew will resume work on the action drama. The source adds, “The production team will utilise the weeks in between to do the groundwork for the next two schedules. A long stint is being planned in north India, mostly Uttarakhand. Also, since Rohit considers Goa his good luck charm, he will conduct another schedule in the beach state, before calling it a wrap on the ambitious web series.”

Aneri Vajani bids adieu to Anupamaa

anupamaa
Neha Maheshwri (BOMBAY TIMES; May 25, 2022)

Aneri Vajani, who played Malvika in Anupamaa, has bid a final goodbye to the daily soap. Her decision to join a show midway and especially not in the lead role might have surprised many given that she has only played the protagonist in all her outings, but Aneri says that it was the strength of the character Mukku that prompted her to take it up.

She says, “When Rajan Shahi sir narrated the character of Mukku, I realised that it was multilayered and I could explore so much as an actor. More importantly, I was brought in to highlight the social evil of domestic violence. So I couldn’t have declined the offer at any cost. After the short break, when Rajan sir asked me whether I would like to come back, I had to return for the love of Mukku. Par ab khatam ho gaya hai and there is no scope of coming back to the show (smiles). I have been a part of Anupamaa and Anuj’s pre-wedding rituals. Maine saari rasme nibha lee bas shaadi mein nahi rahungi. I will enjoy the rest from Cape Town.”

Why Cape Town, you wonder? Well, the actress will soon be flying to South Africa to participate in Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi (KKK) 12. Talking about it, she says, “I am more excited than nervous, as this is my first reality show. I have never been an adventurous person, so KKK will be a nice addition to my profile. I am a bindaas and carefree girl, and I hope to show that side of me on the show.”

Meanwhile, on the fiction front, Aneri now wants to take up only lead characters and shows that revolve around her. She shares, “I like playing strong characters and that’s the reason why I played Mukku. Ek actor ki craving hoti hai ki yaar kuchh achha karo, ab woh satiate ho gayi hai aur mera pet bhar gaya hai. Now, I am going to focus more on myself. I will only take up lead roles now.”

Me and my kids sleep with our video calling app switched on so that we can see each other every time we wake up-Shweta Tiwari

Neha Maheshwri (BOMBAY TIMES; June 7, 2021)

Known for her daily soap outings, Shweta Tiwari has managed to strike a fine balance between fiction and non-fiction genres. She has participated in almost every reality show, including Bigg Boss and Nach Baliye. So, when she was offered Fear Factor: Khatron Ki Khiladi, she lapped it up. She says, “I have participated in every reality show possible. Khatron Ke Khiladi is a unique show in which you face your fears and attempt stunts that you don’t in your normal life. So, I decided to participate in it because of the element of adventure. Also, my daughter told me that if I didn’t take it up now, it would be too late for me to participate in this show in the future.”

The actress is shooting for the show in Cape Town, away from her children — Palak and Reyansh. She tells us that she misses them a lot and they are in constant touch with each other virtually. She shares, “At night, we sleep with our video calling app switched on so that we can see each other every time we wake up. We talk at every opportunity. I talk to my daughter before every stunt and after it to tell her how I have fared. My son wants me to get him a hippopotamus, which he calls ‘hippomonatus’ from South Africa to India for him. So, if in an episode I get to meet a hippopotamus, I am going to take him home, because my son wants it (laughs!).”

While many are struggling to find work, Shweta feels fortunate to be getting work during these challenging times. She says, “It has indeed been a difficult time for all of us. While I am grateful for the quality time spent with my children and family, I realised ki kaam karte rehna kitna important hai. Agar kaam ruk jaaye toh sab kuch ruk jaata hai. Your income may stop, but expenses don’t. You have to pay the EMIs and other expenses. So, it was very important to work. I thank my stars that today I have work and I can look after my kids.”

Post Khatron Ke Khiladi, she plans to get back to the fiction genre provided the concept is good and shows her in a never-seen-before avatar. “Whenever I am offered a show, I look at the graph of my character to ensure that it’s interesting so that I am not bored before the show has ended. If something interesting comes my way, I’ll take it up, be it a negative or a positive character, naagin ho ya daayan ho. I am a daily soap actress.”

On the personal front, Shweta has in recent times been in the news for her ugly public spat with her estranged husband, Abhinav Kohli. The latter has accused her of not allowing him to meet their son and leaving him alone amid the pandemic while she has gone abroad to shoot for the reality show.

Refusing to comment on her personal life, Shweta says, “Look, everyone faces some problem in their life. Ups and downs are a part of life. But if you keep your goals, priorities and responsibilities aside and run after those problems or those creating those problems, then you will feel lost in life. My priority is my kids. I will focus on them and keep working because only that’s going to help me in the long run. I don’t owe any justification or clarification to anyone because I know what’s good for my children. No one knows it better than me. I know how to keep my kids physically and mentally healthy, give them a better life and take care of them. Logon ke sahi ya galat se meri zindagi nahi chal rahi hai. Meri zindagi mere sahi, galat aur jisme mere bachhon ki bhalai hai, uss se chal rahi hai. I am fully dedicated to my kids and my work, which is why I keep working and forging ahead. If people want to forget their responsibilities and problems and make me the centre of their lives, they are most welcome. But meri zindagi mein aur kisi ke liye koi jagah nahi hai siwaai mere bachhon and meri family ke.”

Shweta Tiwari’s fight with her estranged husband Abhinav Kohli gets murkier

Neha Maheshwri (BOMBAY TIMES; May 12, 2021)

Things seem to be getting uglier between Shweta Tiwari and her estranged husband, Abhinav Kohli. It all began a couple of days ago when Abhinav accused Shweta of leaving their son Reyansh alone in Mumbai and travelling to Cape Town for the show Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi. Shweta responded to his allegations, saying she had informed him about her travel over a phone call, and that their son was safe with her mother and daughter, Palak. In another video, Abhinav accused her of lying and said that she should have left their son with him.

THE LATEST DEVELOPMENT
On Monday night, Shweta shared a video on Instagram, in which the actress can be seen struggling with Abhinav in an attempt to stop him from pulling their son, Reyansh. Along with the video, she wrote, “Now let the truth come out!!!! (But this is not going to stay forever on my account, I will eventually delete it, I am posting this right now to reveal the truth, then it goes off). This is why my child is scared of him! After this incident my child was scared for more than a month, he was so scared that he would not even sleep properly at Night! His hand hurt for more than 2 weeks. Even now he is scared of his papa coming home or meeting him (sic).”

In her post, Shweta further wrote, “I can’t let me Child go Through this mental trauma... I try my best to keep him calm and happy! But this Horrible Man makes sure my baby’s mental health goes back to Square one! If this is not physical abuse then what is!!!!?? It is the CCTV footage of my society (sic).”

ABHINAV’S RESPONSE TO THE CCTV FOOTAGE SHARED BY SHWETA
While Shweta could not be reached, Abhinav told us, “I also have a video from the same night, and I don’t think there was any mishandling. She tried to take the child away forcefully from my home even though he didn’t want to go with her. In fact, I tried to reason it out with her to allow our son to stay with me for the night instead of taking him away against his wish. It’s evident in the video, which I have that she sat down and made it look like I pushed her. There was no pushing, pulling, or assault. She did it deliberately to create a scene. When my son said that he wanted to go to his mother, I took him to her. The following day, she took him to a hotel. After I failed to locate him, I filed a case against her in December 2020.”

Recently, in an interview, Shweta had said that Abhinav hadn’t financially contributed towards raising their son. Talking about it Abhinav said, “That’s not true. I was working till the beginning of 2019 and would transfer 40 per cent of my earnings into Shweta’s bank account without fail.”

SHWETA AND ABHINAV’S CHANGING EQUATION
1) Shweta married Raja Chaudhary in 1998 and their daughter Palak was born in October 2000. They were granted divorce in 2012.

2) The actress tied the knot with Abhinav Kohli in 2013 after dating him for a few years. Their son, Reyansh, was born in 2016.

3) Their marriage hit a rocky patch in August 2019 when Shweta filed a complaint against him for domestic violence and her daughter Palak, too, had alleged in a post on Instagram that he persistently made inappropriate and disturbing remarks, “the impact of which is only known to my mother and I,” she had said in her post on social media.
----------------------
Even as the dispute spills over into the public domain through social media, the former couple remains adamant on their positions
Kavita Awaasthi (HINDUSTAN TIMES; May 12, 2021)

In an ugly turn of events, actors Shweta Tiwari and her estranged husband, Abhinav Kohli are engaged in an unfortunate and resentful face-off over their son, Reyansh. Things got heated up over their son after Tiwari left for Cape Town, South Africa on May 7, to shoot for, Khatron Ke Khiladi 11. After this, Kohli, in a video, said that Reyansh was abandoned by his mother.

Explaining herself in an interview to Bollywood Bubble, Tiwari said, “I had informed Abhinav over a phone call that I am going to Cape Town and that Reyansh is with my family. I really don’t understand the agenda behind it, given that he speaks to Reyansh in the evening over call for about one hour, every day, as per the High Court’s order.” She added that he hasn’t been contributing financially for their son’s welfare.

In retaliation, Kohli released a new video, denying the allegations and claiming that he has been transferring 40% of his earnings into her bank account and that Tiwari was lying that she had informed him about their son’s whereabouts.

Tiwari then posted a video from the CCTV camera of their building, where Kohli is seeing snatching their son, pushing her and walking away. She wrote, “Let the truth Come out… This is why my Child is scared of him …”(sic). Many including Ekta Kapoor, Karanvir Bohra and Kamya Panjabi, demanded action against Kohli.

Kohli then in a two hour long live on Instagram, explained the chronology of events with video proofs about the video Tiwari posted. Talking to us, Kohli says, “She snatched my kid and now this huge scandal with labels like ‘man-handler’ and ‘woman-beater’. She has lied. If you look at the videos I shared, it is a clearer version and you will see Shweta wasn’t pushed, she sat down on her own and is seen lying on the grass on her own. It was all acting.”

After dating for a few years, the couple got married in 2013 and had their son in 2016. A year later, Tiwari filed a complaint of domestic violence against him, and they were separated in 2019. The couple live in the same building complex. Kohli further adds: “This is torture on a personal level not just maligning my character. Whatever the world sees is not even half of what happens.”

After repeated messages and calls, Tiwari was unavailable for a response.

The past year’s context makes My Octopus Teacher more relevant-Swati Thiyagarajan

As My Octopus Teacher bags Oscar for Best Documentary, production head Swati says pandemic has changed people's attitude towards environment
Mohar Basu (MID-DAY; April 28, 2021)

It was 2 am in Cape Town where Indian environmental journalist Swati Thiyagarajan lives with filmmaker-husband Craig Foster when the win was announced. “We created quite a racket. I bet all our neighbours woke up,” laughs Thiyagarajan, as we get on a call with her, hours after My Octopus Teacher won the Best Documentary Feature at the 93rd Academy Awards. While Foster served as a producer, Thiyagarajan — who has previously authored Born Wild: Journey Into The Wild Hearts Of India And Africa — was the production manager on the project helmed by Pippa Ehrlich and James Reed. “In the run-up to the Oscars, we didn’t feature on anyone’s predictions. The fact that we were nominated stunned us silly. We weren’t arrogant enough to presume a win. It was a local story, but when the film [was acquired by] Netflix, [it caught] the world’s attention,” she says.

The wins at the Oscars, and the BAFTAs earlier this month are probably the perfect culmination to Foster’s journey that started in 2010 when he began free-diving in an underwater kelp forest in False Bay near Cape Town. Through the Netflix feature, the filmmaker-naturalist documented how he forged a relationship with a wild common octopus over a year. Thiyagarajan believes the story resonated with viewers as the pandemic has triggered a perspective shift towards the environment. “After a year like 2020, you can’t take away the context in which a film releases. Our [feature] is about empathy and a beautiful world. The pandemic stems from the destruction of nature’s biodiversity. The past year’s context makes the film more relevant,” she says, before heaping praise on Time, another Oscar-nominated documentary that follows Sibil Fox Richardson as she fights for the release of her husband who is serving a prison sentence for a bank robbery. “It was relevant because of the Black Lives Matter movement, and then Derek [Chauvin, police officer] was adjudged guilty.”

For her, the win proves that a well-told story will find its audience, no matter the obstacles. “We didn’t have a studio as a crutch. Influencers and activists made the film a talking point.”

When Anurag Kashyap is around, I don't have to worry about anything-Nawazuddin Siddiqui

Nawazuddin Siddiqui on Sacred Games 2: Don't worry about role with Anurag around
As fans welcome his Sacred Games 2 look, Nawazuddin Siddiqui on how Anurag Kashyap has made Gaitonde 'bigger and better'
Sonil Dedhia (MID-DAY; July 15, 2019)

Anurag KashyapHe may have traded his psychedelic print shirts for subdued suits, but Ganesh Gaitonde has retained his menacing streak, warns Nawazuddin Siddiqui at the onset of the chat. In the week since the trailer of the second season of Sacred Games dropped online, the Internet has been abuzz about Gaitonde's new look.

"Now, he is an international gangster who goes to Johannesburg, Cape Town, Mombasa and Nairobi. So we had to style the character accordingly. I didn't have any reference point, but the look is along the lines of international mafia that we see in movies," says Siddiqui of his new avatar.

While the first season of the Saif Ali Khan starrer ended on a cliffhanger, Siddiqui promises that the upcoming instalment of the Netflix series has been designed to shock and awe. He refuses to divulge details about the cat-and-mouse game that will ensue between Khan's and his characters, sticking to a pithy reply: "My character is complex because of his past, and there are many layers that will be unravelled in the second season. Ganesh Gaitonde is going to be bigger and better. I had read the book [Vikram Chandra's novel by the same name] at the start of the first season. It has helped me understand my character better."

If his part of a crime overlord in the thriller has quickly gained cult status, he says the credit rests with frequent collaborator and the show's co-director Anurag Kashyap. "When Anurag is around, I don't have to worry about anything. The biggest advantage is that he knows me personally, so the role was created in such a way that I would be able to relate to it. He is always able to bring out the best in me."

Sacred Games next edition will be the baap of first season-Nawazuddin Siddiqui

Nawazuddin Siddiqui on Sacred Games 2: Next edition will be baap of first season
Having wrapped up Africa schedule, Nawazuddin says Gaitonde’s arc set for unexpected turn in Sacred Games 2
Mohar Basu (MID-DAY; January 28, 2019)

“I have left no stone unturned to absorb the nuances of Ganesh Gaitonde,” begins Nawazuddin Siddiqui, aware that his crime lord character from Sacred Games has become an icon in its own right. With the first season of the homegrown Netflix original having won much applause, the onus is on the makers — directors Anurag Kashyap and Neeraj Ghaywan, and showrunner Vikramaditya Motwane — to present a worthy second instalment.

Fresh off the Africa schedule, Siddiqui says, “This season will be the baap of the first one. Even if people know Ganesh Gaitonde, they won’t know what to expect from him. We shot extensively across Mombasa [Kenya], Cape Town and Johannesburg.”

Point out how the new season — slated to drop online mid-2019 — comes with its set of expectations, and he says, “I realised the impact of the show when I was shooting in Rome, a week after its release. People came up to me to click pictures. My team would show me the memes that were doing the rounds on the Internet.”

Before starting their final week-long schedule in Mumbai tomorrow, Siddiqui says that like most collaborations with Kashyap, this too has been “worthwhile”. “When Anurag is working with me, he is constantly pushing me to break my own boundaries. It comes from familiarity and my ability to go on a rollercoaster with him. as an actor, I am someone who enjoys twirling myself up.”

Akshay Kumar to fly to Cape Town with family for Christmas and New Year?

Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna
DNA (December 10, 2017)

Akshay Kumar’s Christmas and New Year plans are in place. The Bollywood superstar, who will be away from December 22 to January 3, is expected to fly to Cape Town with his wife and kids for the holiday season.

Time and again, Akki has confessed that Cape Town is his favourite destination in the world and if he could, he would spend much more time in South Africa. He also owns an ocean-facing home in the city that stays fully functional around the year. The staff there is protective of his daughter Nitara. And it is often in this kitchen that the actor, along with his son Aarav, tries out new recipes. Watching Akshay jog around his sprawling mansion and also climbing the innumerable steps around the place, one can tell that he loves this paradise in the legislative capital of South Africa.

During the fortnight-long vacation, he will celebrate Christmas, wife Twinkle’s birthday on December 29 and also ring in the New Year with his family.

I have a lot of friends in Bollywood despite what people think-Russell Peters

Lasyapriya Sundaram (BOMBAY TIMES; April 1, 2017)

Russell Peters was in India this week to shoot for his upcoming Canadian TV series (The Indian Detective), which will see him teaming up with actor Anupam Kher for his first ever leading role on the small screen. The celebrated comedian spoke to BT about why it was essential that the series be partially shot in India and also cleared the air about his love-hate relationship with Bollywood. Excerpts...

Do you share a love-hate equation with Bollywood because you had once claimed that you hate it?
I have a lot of friends in Bollywood despite what people think. Come to think of it, you don't say bad things about people you don't like. However, a lot of times, the message gets lost and twisted.

What's your take on Bollywood and Hollywood comedies?
I haven't seen any (comedy) in Bollywood. So, I can't say one way or the other. Are they making them now? (Laughs) In Hollywood, they are kind of dropping the ball. The truth is, I haven't watched any films in a long time. I watch a lot of documentaries, considered nerdy stuff, which you probably wouldn't associate with me.

What do you love about India?
We were recently shooting at Dharavi. When most of my co-actors went back to the vanity van during a break, I took a walk around. I was amazed by the lives I saw there. There was this little girl, who might not be living the optimum life, but she looked so happy. She made me think that maybe, I am not living the optimum life as well. She kept calling me English Uncle. I have been to many countries and visited underprivileged areas, but they always made me feel uneasy. You don't get that feeling in India. It's the mindset that sets us apart from the rest of the world.

What's your television debut as a leading actor all about?
I play a cop in Toronto, who gets suspended after landing in trouble. When my dad (played by Anupam Kher) gets to know about it, he fakes an illness to make me visit him in India. Once here, I meet a pretty girl named Mira, who lives in the same apartment as my father. She is a lawyer, who works for the poor and the destitute. She thinks I am a detective and asks me to help her solve some case, which upsets the corrupt local police.

Why was it imperative that you shoot in India?
The film was initially shot in Cape Town, but I kept telling the director that he can fake the interiors, but not Mumbai. In a way, I convinced him and the team to come here.

Ajay Devgn & family leave for London on Dec 22; Akshay Kumar also flies to Cape Town with family?

Natasha Coutinho (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 24, 2016)

Ajay Devgn left for London on Thursday to ring in Christmas and New Year with wife Kajol and his children Nysa and Yug. They will return to the Bay on January 3 and Ajay will resume shooting for Milan Luthria’s Baadshaho.

The actor had earlier said, “London is home for us. We are looking forward to a white Christmas but since the English weather is so unpredictable one never knows how it will turn out. Nevertheless, Christmas and New Year in London are regular fixtures on our holiday calendar. I love the cold and I want nothing more than to spend time with my family there,’’

The temperature in London on Friday was a bearable 11 degrees centigrade with no forecast of snow.

Akshay Kumar with wife Twinkle, and kids, Aarav and Nitara, also took off to South Africa. The family were in Cape Town for Diwali too. Back then, the actor had tweeted, “Away from the hustle bustle...in a place I never get tired of. Cape Town, thank you for always being a welcoming sight! #getaway #famjam.”

They are expected to back in Mumbai in the first week of January after celebrating Christmas, New Year and Twinkle’s birthday on December 29.

Twinkle Khanna to bring in her birthday & Christmas-New Year with Akshay Kumar in Cape Town?

DNA (December 21, 2016)

Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna love going off on holidays. Some with their kids and families, some with friends and even solo holidays on their birthdays and wedding anniversary. This year, for Mrs Funnybones’ birthday on December 29, the duo are taking off for Cape Town. The destination is a favourite with the Kumars and this year they also spent Diwali there.

The couple are leaving this week and celebrate Christmas and New Year in South Africa in a sea-facing villa with family and friends. They will only return in the first week of January.

Is Akshay Kumar losing his hair?

MUMBAI MIRROR (November 5, 2016)

Raising kids is not for the faint-hearted and even Akshay Kumar hailed as one of B-wood's few A-listers, defying age even at 47 thanks to a single-minded focus on healthy living, seems to have turned a little gray, even lost a little bit of hair, bringing up two young Kumars. Mr Khiladi who flew out to Cape Town for a Diwali break, recently shared a picture of himself with his firstborn, Arav, bonding on the beach.

“That feeling when you realise your little boy is not that little anymore... almost my height and borrows my shoes,“ reflected the proud dad who routinely indulges his four-year-old daughter Nitara, letting her accessorise his hair with cutesy rubber bands. But all the pulling and plaiting seems to be having an adverse effect on our Samson's strong locks. Even as father and son seem mesmerised by the view, we can't peel our eyes off the fast growing bald patch.

Locals in Cape Town conveyed to me sweetly that they loved Aashiqui 2-Shraddha Kapoor

Avinash Lohana (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 24, 2016)

Shraddha Kapoor landed in Cape Town in early August for a 15-day schedule of Mohit Suri’s coming-of-age romance Half Girlfriend. The coastal city is the second most populous urban area in South Africa, after Johannesburg. Its geography is influenced by the contours of the Table Mountain, its surrounding peaks, the Durbanville Hills, and the expansive lowland region, the Cape Flats. Here’s Shraddha’s insider account of the city...

Second time lucky

This was my second visit to Cape Town, the first in 2012 for Aashiqui 2. I'd really liked the city back then, but this time I've fallen in love with it a little more. We were shooting for Half Girlfriend in August and the weather was lovely.

The sun was shining brightly most days, with the occasional light showers. The air was crisp, fresh and happy. I'd love to visit it during other times of the year too but this time it was perfect.

The hotel was great, the staff hospitable. I even got to work out a few times, but not as much as I'd have liked to even though I carried Namrata Purohit’s The Lazy Girls Guide To Being Fit with me and would skim through it whenever time permitted.

Hiking up Table Mountain

Along with my co-star Rhea Chakraborty, I went hiking up the Table Mountain. It forms part of the Table Mountain National Park. We were the only two up for it and we were really excited. It took us around two-and-a-half to three hours to climb up. We took the cable car down. It was tiring but fun. Rhea is an awesome partner to hike with. She's always charged up and game for adventure.

I recommend hiking to everyone, they should try it once, somewhere. You realise just how much you can push yourself and at the end, feel like you've truly achieved something. This was my second medium challenge hike. The first was at the Yosemite National Park in California’s Sierra Nevada Mountains.

In the Cape of Good hope

One day I had an off so a group of us bundled into this big van and drove off to the Cape Of Good Hope. One of the many capes in the South Atlantic Ocean, it has long been of special significance to sailors. John II of Portugal gave it its name because of the cheer the opening of a sea route to India and the East brought to the natives. We called our group the ‘Mad Lovers’. As we wound our way along the Chapmans Peak Drive the view was stunning as we had some awesome music and each other for company. It was one of my best rides ever.

We hung out at Camps Bay, an affluent suburb of Cape Town which is a popular tourist haunt. and ate at a local eatery. The food is great and after that we strolled down to the beach to watch the clouds descend on the water. It was magical!

I have earlier even zipped into The Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, the city's most popular shopping arcade when I was in Cape Town for Aashiqui 2. It’s a nice, bustling area but I didn’t do any shopping there. But I took tons of photographs that make for perfect memories.

Remembering Aashiqui 2

For Aashiqui 2 we shot at the Artscape Theatre Centre, which is the main performing arts venue in Cape Town. When I returned to the city this time, all those memories came flooding back. This time too I collected lots of memories as we filmed at several places around the city. We even went to a party which was super fun. And we gorged on lots of amazing food though I didn’t get a chance to try any of the local delicacies.

Some of the locals I’d met earlier and it was wonderful chatting and laughing with them again. Some of them had seen Aashiqui 2 and loved it. They conveyed this to me very sweetly. Some of the local technicians were the same from the earlier film, a disciplined lot who got along really well with our Indian techs.

We interacted with some Indian fans and well-wishers too. Their love and support means the world to me.

Akshay Kumar & Twinkle Khanna to bring in Diwali in Cape Town with kids?

MUMBAI MIRROR (October 17, 2016)

Buzz is, Akshay will bring in the festival of lights in Cape Town this year. He will fly to South Africa from KL for his Diwali break. Wife Twinkle and kids Aarav and Nitara will join him there.

Last year, the Kumars had thrown one of Bollywood's best-attended card parties at their Juhu residence. This year, they have a different kind of outing planned which is likely to be a mix of adventure and festivities with perhaps a couple of close friends. Akshay has shot many of his films in Cape Town, including Singh Is Bliing, and has often described it as a 'home away from home', visiting it at least a couple of times a year.

Rohit Shetty to shoot 4 action scenes of Dilwale in Cape Town

Nayandeep Rakshit (DNA; March 27, 2015)

Rohit Shetty might have started shooting for his upcoming Christmas release Dilwale in Mumbai, but soon he’s flying abroad. “Rohit and the Dilwale team will be camping in Cape Town for their next schedule,” a source close to the director confirmed. Like his other films, Dilwale too will have some hi-fi action scenes — four of which will be shot in Cape Town itself.

Rohit, in a recent interview, also confirmed the development. “There is a lot of action in this film and there are four big action sequences overseas. I want to do it in Cape Town because I am familiar with the team there due to the Khatron Ke Khiladi shoots. At present, everything is in the planning stage but we are likely to shoot in Cape Town.” Shah Rukh, in a previous interview with us, had also informed that Dilwale will have some never-seen-before action sequences, which is way beyond his own imagination. But the Cape Town schedule is not taking off immediately, the director is quoted to have said. “We are planning to shoot in Cape Town, Abu Dhabi and Mauritius, but only after I complete the Goa schedule. My whole team and my unit are very happy that we will be going abroad for a long schedule, not a small one. For me, it is a requirement of the script,” Rohit said.
