Since then, the director likes to offer practically every film to the actor. She was even keen on Irrfan playing the title role in her last project, The Reluctant Fundamentalist. However, Irrfan didn’t want to play a terrorist.

Now Mira and Irrfan are all set to team up for a film called The Bengali Detective, about a middle-aged spy in Kolkata who is keen to learn contemporary dancing. Mira, we learn, has pursued Irrfan to play the Bengali bhadralok again. Irrfan had played a Bengali to great impact in Mira’s The Namesake as well.

However, she needs to check out Irrfan’s dancing skills before she takes the final call. This is where ad filmmaker Piyush Pandey comes in. Explains Irrfan, “Mira wants to see if I can dance or not. In my latest ad for Piyush, I am seen dancing. I am sending that ad to Mira to evaluate my dancing skills.”
