The Delhi High Court has stayed the release of Anubhav Sinha’s Gulaab Gang, which was slated to hit theatres this Friday, to May 8. Sampat Pal, leader of Gulaabi Gang, had moved court alleging that the filmmakers had made the movie without securing her approval. However, the makers maintain that the film is a work of fiction.
A source close to the production unit said, “We are filing an appeal, stating that advance bookings have opened and overseas prints have already been dispatched.” Sampat Pal has also demanded compensation on the plea that certain scenes in the film would hamper her reputation.
Her lawyer, Kush Sharma, said, “We had sent a notice to Anubhav Sinha in 2013. But they replied only in February 2014. We filed a petition on Tuesday, and the case came up for hearing on Wednesday.” Sampat Pal had earlier told hitlist that she was willing to back down from the case if the filmmakers gave her due credit.
But at this moment, she is not sure. “We would not want to comment on it at all. We are just waiting for a copy of the order,” said Sharma.
