IS THE UNDERPERFORMANCE OF JAI HO A WAKE UP CALL FOR SALMAN?
Jai Ho never generated huge buzz. Poor music, not-so-exciting heroine and promos etc were the key reasons. Yet, many felt that the film should open big as it’s a film starring Salman Khan, who’s one of the biggest superstars around. But as luck would have it, Jai Ho didn’t have a record-breaking opening that was expected by almost everyone, including the makers themselves. What’s more, the response was fairly positive and yet the jump in the collections was missing. Though Sunday was huge (25 crore), the damage was slightly done due to okayish collections on the first 2 days. If Jai Ho fares well in Week 2, its lifetime collections can be somewhere around 130-135 crore. This is much less than the collections of Salman’s own films like Bodyguard, Dabangg, Dabangg 2 and Ek Tha Tiger and much lower than the collections of his contemporaries Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan’s films, both of who are now members of 200-crore club.
So why did Jai Ho underperform? A major reason is that although it offers something new, it in a way is still a typical Salman Khan entertainer. It features Salman’s powerful whistle-worthy entry followed by Salman bashing up goons and emerging almost unscathed. It features Salman going shirtless in the climax while fighting with the villain in the end. From 2009 till present day, Salman has done 10 films and the aforementioned saga has been repeated in as many as 7 films! Ek Tha Tiger, though, had a brief moment when Salman takes off his shirt, and that too in the pre-climax. But still, the repetitiveness and predictability has cropped in and it’s evident that audiences are no longer interested to see the same stuff again and again. And this also puts a question mark on the fate of Salman Khan’s next, Kick, which is also expected to be an action entertainer and a remake of a Southern film! Thankfully, post-Kick, Salman is changing tracks and doing a comedy (No Entry Mein Entry) and a family drama (Sooraj Barjatya’s next). But it’s high time that Salman realizes that he has repeated his formula way too many times and it’s high time he changes his strategies in the long run!

ABHAY DEOL’S FIRST PRODUCTION RELEASES TOMORROW!
Abhay Deol planned to be a producer few years ago but his plans got shelved. He finally now turns producer with One By Two, which is all set to release tomorrow. It has Abhay Deol in the lead role along with his girlfriend Preeti Desai. Lilette Dubey, Rati Agnihotri, Darhan Jariwala and others complete the rest of the cast. From the trailers, the film seems like a nice, slice-of-life movie about regular 9-to-5 job employees trying to achieve their dreams and how they ‘come out of their respective boxes’. However, the excitement is missing from the promos. Songs moreover have not worked and failed to reach to the audiences in time, thanks to Abhay’s tiff with T-Series. The music got out only this week. Opening therefore should be very low. Unless the film turns out to be extraordinary, it unfortunately won’t have chances of being a profitable venture.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE ONE BY TWO AND WHY? DO LET ME KNOW!
