Bipasha Basu’s Bhai Must Be Crazy unlikely to take off any time soon?

Last seen in the horror-thriller Alone (2015), Bipasha Basu has stayed in news more for her personal dalliances than her work. The actress was supposed to start shooting for a comedy, Bhai Must Be Crazy — a conscious effort to play down her ‘horror queen’ tag — five months ago, but it seems unlikely to take off any time soon.

Reason? The cast and crew are waiting for a go-ahead from the producer, who happens to be controversial Haryana politician Gopal Goyal Kanda, who became infamous for his alleged involvement in the suicide of former air hostess Geetika Sharma.

The project was announced last October with a shoot schedule in Nepal and Thailand slated for November. But not a single frame has been shot so far. In early January, it was announced that Pankaj Kapur would star in the film opposite Bips. Prakash Raj and Sunil Grover are also part of the cast.

The film’s writer-director Vinay Sharma says, “I have not yet started shooting for the film, but I have done a location hunt in Nepal. Bipasha and the rest of the cast are keen that the project takes off. We are waiting for the producer’s nod.” Sharma, however, states that he knows Kanda personally and that he had evinced desire to turn producer. “Since he is not from the industry, things are different,” he explains.

He also states that he has not yet taken any dates from the cast. “I am hopeful things will roll in the new financial year.” However, sources state that the film is unlikely to go on floors any time soon as the producer has apparently done a rethink.

Sharma had penned the Sanjay Dutt-Vivek Oberoi starrer Zila Ghaziabad (2013). He is also writing Chitrangda Singh’s upcoming production as well as the biopic on underworld don, Babloo Srivastava.

Bipasha Basu, Pankaj Kapur in a cat-and-mouse chase in Bhai Must Be Crazy

After a series of horror flicks in the last two years, including Raaz 3, Aatma, Creature 3D and Alone, Scream Queen Bipasha Basu is playing a serious Intelligence Officer in the comedy, Bhai Must Be Crazy. “It's a cat-and-mouse chase set in the jungles with Bipasha's character chasing an international don, played by Pankaj Kapur,“ says debutant filmmaker Vinay Sharma, who has earlier scripted the Sanjay Dutt-starrer Zila Ghaziabad.

Vinay narrated the story to the 36-year-old actress a month-and-a-half ago and she immediately jumped on board. “She has some superb action in the climax and she will make an entry with paragliding,“ informs the filmmaker, adding that Prakash Raj was supposed to play the don earlier but opted out over date issues. “Pankajji gave his nod in a week's time. It's an honour to work with him.“

Justifying his choice of Bipasha, he says he wanted a tough actress for the role and she fits it to the T. Sunil Grover plays a tribal in the film who helps her.

The story is set in the forests on the Nepal China border but the major shooting will be done in Kanchanaburi jungles, a four-hour drive from Bangkok. “I will be shooting a small portion with Sunil from January 5 in Nepal, post which we will head to Bangkok in February for a 45-day schedule,“ he says. Singer Mika Singh is composing the music.

Shoot of Prakash Raj's next shifted from Nepal to Bangkok in view of recent earthquake

The killer earthquake that struck Nepal exactly a week ago caught the unit of upcoming film Bhai Welcome To India off guard. Vinay Sharma’s directorial debut was supposed to roll in mid-May in the jungles of the Himalayan nation, but the calamity forced him to reconsider reconsider his plans. So now it’s destination Bangkok for his cast and crew.

Says a source, “The shoot was set to start on May 15 in Nepal jungles. The location had been decided after a thorough hunt and the forest suited the script well. Unfortunately, the earthquake has hit everyone hard.
To reach the jungles, we had to cross Kathmandu which wouldn’t be possible now.” Right now, the director and his team are in Bangkok scouting for appropriate locations.

Vinay had posted online: “It’s very sad that my original location for shoot in Nepal is unfortunately in a state of crisis. But the show never stops. Off to Bangkok!”
