Supreme Court grants bail to filmmaker Vikram Bhatt’s wife

Supreme Court Grants Interim Bail To Vikram Bhatt's Wife In Rs 44 Crore Fraud Case

THE TIMES OF INDIA (February 14, 2026)

New Delhi: Terming her arrest in an alleged cheating case ‘unfortunate’, the Supreme Court on Friday granted bail to filmmaker Vikram Bhatt’s wife Shwetambari and ordered her immediate release from Central Jail, Udaipur. Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi told a bench of CJI Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi that on a frivolous cheating case lodged by Ajay Murdia, owner of Indira IVF and a partner of Indira Entertainment LLP, Rajasthan police had picked up the husband and wife from Mumbai in December.

When Murdia’s counsel Harsh Surana said it is a case of cheating Rs 44 crore, the bench asked, “Can a criminal case be used for recovery of dues? It is very unfortunate.” It issued notice to Rajasthan and Murdia and asked them to file response by Wednesday while posting further hearing on Thursday.

In its order, the bench said, “Meanwhile, as an interim measure, it is directed that Shwetambari V Bhatt, wife of Vikram Bhatt, presently incarcerated at Central Jail, Udaipur, be released forthwith on interim bail subject to her furnishing bail bond to the satisfaction of the chief judicial magistrate, Udaipur”. The Rajasthan HC had rejected bail pleas of Bhatts on January 31.

I’ve never attended a Christian wedding before, the first one I experienced was my own!-Nupur Sanon

Debarati S Sen (BOMBAY TIMES; January 14, 2026)

Nupur Sanon and Stebin Ben’s three-day wedding festivities in Udaipur, culminated on January 11 with traditional pheras. The couple, who hosted a grand reception in Mumbai yesterday, spoke exclusively to us about their wedding celebrations. Excerpts...

A celebration of two cultures and intimate moments
Nupur: We blend our cultures beautifully. I’m a Hindu Punjabi and Stebin comes from a Christian background, so our wedding reflected both worlds. We had all the traditional rituals - haldi, mehendi, pheras, sangeet and cocktail, along with a Christian ceremony and vows.

Stebin: The three-day celebration was intentionally intimate, with only our closest friends and family, just people who’ve genuinely been part of our journey and witnessed our love story over the past five years.

Nupur: Before the wedding, whenever we found time in Mumbai between work commitments, we were rehearsing dances with friends, siblings and parents. It was all very organic and fun, with impromptu dhol nights that made the lead-up to the wedding incredibly special.

‘We wrote our Christian wedding vows’
Stebin: Our vows were about choosing each other forever, celebrating love, commitment, and togetherness. What made it truly special was having our closest family and friends speak about us and share stories during the ceremony.

Nupur: We wrote our own personalized vows. Interestingly, I’ve never attended a Christian wedding before, the first one I experienced was my own!

Moments that made the wedding deeply personal
Stebin: What mattered most was celebrating with our families and closest people. We wanted to honour every ritual properly, without rushing, and truly enjoy our wedding.

Nupur: That’s why we chose to step away from Mumbai and celebrate in Udaipur from January 9 to 11. It gave us privacy, space, and a strong cultural connect. I love Rajasthan, and we wanted the experience to feel calm, present, and joyful, not overwhelming.

When life came full circle
Stebin: I had actually performed at this property years ago for someone else’s wedding. At the time, I never imagined that I’d one day be getting married here myself. It truly feels like life has come full circle.

Nupur: About three years ago, Stebin was performing at this very venue for another wedding. I hadn’t even seen the property then, but he called me from there and casually said, “I think I want to get married here someday.” And now, here we are - getting married at the same place. It really does feel full circle.

Family and friends on the dance floor
Nupur: Oh yes! Proper ladki-wale performances. We’ve rehearsed properly. Kriti and I danced together. Varun Sharma and Kriti also did a super fun performance. Two of my closest friends, Risha and Moni, joined in and it was all very organic and joyful.

Music, performances and celebratory nights
Stebin: Sonu Sir performed of course. Also, Sukhbir – he has that absolute Punjabi vibe and is one of the finest Punjabi performers. We also had a Qawwali night. There were a few more singers joining in, and some surprise performances. Honestly, it wasn’t just about performances — all of us were dancing, celebrating, and performing together. It’s very participative.

'The first person I told about Stebin was my sister'
Nupur: The first person I told about Stebin was my sister (Kriti Sanon). We’re five years apart but extremely close, we are like best friends. At that time, Stebin had just started professionally, so there wasn’t much to show career-wise. I spoke more about him as a person. I made her listen to his voice, and she immediately said he had a magical voice and immense talent. A few months later, I told my mother. Initially, she was a little unsure, like most mothers, cautious about seriousness and the future. That’s when my sister stepped in and told her, “I’ve met Stebin. I’ve heard him. He’s extremely talented and hardworking.” That confidence changed everything. And honestly, Stebin leaves a great impression when he meets people, so from there on, everything just fell into place.

‘A relaxed celebration in Mumbai on Jan 13’
Stebin: We don’t really believe in the traditional reception format — sitting on a couch, people coming and congratulating. There was no stage, no formal seating. I clearly told the decor team that. Think of it more as a celebration party for our film-industry friends — people who couldn’t travel to Udaipur. It’s our first big party as husband and wife, meeting people with that tag, relaxed and happy. It was a completely different crowd and vibe — and honestly, probably the most relaxed night of all the celebrations.

Kriti Sanon will be maid of honour at sister Nupur’s wedding

Debarati S Sen (BOMBAY TIMES; January 9, 2026)

Singer Stebin Ben and Nupur Sanon’s pre-wedding celebrations begin today in Udaipur with haldi and mehendi ceremonies. The celebrations will continue with a Christian wedding ceremony scheduled tomorrow, while the pheras will take place on January 11.

A roast and toast segment for the bride and groom
Sources close to the couple revealed that the wedding will be marked by several heartfelt moments. “Nupur’s father will walk her down the aisle, while her sister, Kriti, will take on the role of maid of honour. Adding a unique and personal touch to the celebrations, the couple has planned a special 'roast-and-toast' segment during the wedding festivities. Their loved ones will either lovingly roast them or emotionally toast them. They’re extremely excited and looking forward to it,” said a source.

A special touch to Kriti's outfit
Fashion remains a key highlight of the wedding. The source adds, “All bridesmaid outfits have been designed by Nupur’s label and feature an aqua, Tiffany blue–inspired shade. Kriti’s outfit has been given a special touch to make it stand out.”

Sanon sisters on the dance floor
Music and nostalgia will also take centre stage. “Nupur and Kriti will be performing together to two fun songs at one of the events. These are special songs that they both used to dance to as kids, which are close to their hearts,” the source revealed. Designer Manish Malhotra has designed outfits for the entire Sanon family for the celebrations, including the main ceremony on January 11.

Rs 30 crore fraud case: Vikram Bhatt, wife arrested in Mumbai

Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt, wife arrested

Dishank Purohit & Ahmed Ali | TNN (THE TIMES OF INDIA; December 8, 2025)

Jaipur/Mumbai: Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt and his wife Shwetambari Bhatt were arrested from Mumbai early Sunday in a Rs 30-crore fraud case registered in Udaipur last month.

Udaipur-based IVF specialist Dr Ajay Murdia, founder of Indira IVF, had filed a complaint a month ago alleging that Bhatt, his wife and six others induced him to invest over Rs 30 crore to make a biopic on his late wife. He alleged that he was promised high earnings, but nothing materialized.

Bhatt has denied the allegations, claiming the police were "misguided". Last week, Udaipur police had issued a lookout notice for Bhatt and his wife. Their daughter Krishna Bhatt is also named in the FIR.

Sources said an Udaipur police team coordinated with the Mumbai police and arrested the couple from the residence of Bhatt's sister in Andheri. They were produced before a holiday magistrate in Mumbai. "The Udaipur team came with an arrest warrant. The magistrate permitted the police to take them to Rajasthan on two days' transit remand," a Mumbai police officer said. Udaipur SP Yogesh Goyal told TOI they would be brought to the city.

The cops are scrutinizing agreements, bank transactions, and communications linked to the alleged investment based on the FIR registered at Bhupalpura police station on November 8. Besides the couple, the others named in the FIR include their associates Mehboob Ansari and Dinesh Kataria, an Udaipur resident.

Two of the suspects — Ansari and vendor Sandeep Vishwanath — were arrested from Mumbai on November 17. Police are searching for Kataria who allegedly facilitated the deal.

HINDUSTAN TIMES (December 8, 2025)

Udaipur: Rajasthan Police on Sunday arrested filmmaker Vikram Bhatt and his wife Shwetambari from Mumbai in connection with an alleged Rs. 30 crore fraud case involving an Udaipur-based businessman, police officers aware of the details said.

“The arrest was made from Ganga Bhavan Apartments in Yari Road area, which is said to be the residence of Bhatt’s sister-in-law,” Udaipur superintendent of police Yogesh Goyal said. “The police will now apply for a transit remand in Bandra Court to bring him to Udaipur for further investigation”.

The two have been arrested in connection with a case registered on November 17 based on a complaint filed against eight people by Ajay Murdia, owner of Indira Group of Companies.

According to the complaint, Murdia met film producer Dinesh Katariya at an event, where the latter proposed making a biopic on the former’s wife, claiming that the film would highlight her contribution to the nation.

In April 2024, Murdia was invited to Vrindavan Studio in Mumbai, where he met Bhatt. During the meeting, both parties reportedly agreed to make the biopic, and it was decided that Bhatt would handle the entire filmmaking process while Murdia would only provide financing, Goyal said.

According to Goyal, a contract worth Rs. 40 crore was reportedly signed for two films titled “Biopic” and “Maharana”. From May 2024 to June 2025, Murdia paid Bhatt and vendors linked to the alleged projects on multiple occasions, with the total money amounting to Rs. 30 crore.

However, after the accused stopped responding to his emails earlier this year, Murdia concluded that he had been cheated and subsequently filed a complaint on November 8.

Bhatt and seven others have been booked under sections 318 (cheating), 316 (criminal breach of trust), 336 (forgery) and others of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

How Taapsee Pannu’s hush hush wedding was about giving back

HINDUSTAN TIMES (April 1, 2025)

Grand weddings might be the norm in Bollywood, but Taapsee Pannu took a different route last year. The actor married longtime partner, former badminton player Mathias Boe in a private ceremony in Udaipur last March and kept the entire affair under wraps.

Now, as the couple marked their first wedding anniversary, a sweet detail about their big day has surfaced. Instead of the usual wedding gifts, Taapsee and Mathias requested guests to contribute towards Project Nanhi Kali — an initiative the actor has been associated with closely for five years.

RJ Abhilash, a close friend of the actor, shares, “We all know the girls supported by Taapsee (in this initiative) as ‘Taapsee ke bacche’ because that’s how she introduces them. [She is] always sharing their milestones as her personal victories. Taapsee and Mathias perhaps have access to the choicest of things across the globe. So, I am glad that instead of a regular gift, we were able to make the girls at Nanhi Kali feel included in the celebrations.”

Turns out, even the quietest weddings can leave a lasting impact. Sheetal Mehta, trustee and executive director of KC Mahindra Education Trust, acknowledges the couple’s gesture, as well as Taapsee’s long-standing support.

She says, “Taapsee and Mathias’ commitment to girls’ education reflects the power of consistent, meaningful action. Since 2020, her support for 100 young girls has created ripples of change — representing not just access to quality education but the freedom to dream bigger. What makes Taapsee’s involvement special is her understanding that real change happens when we show up.”

Main darpok aadmi hoon; I feel stronger, mentally ever since I met Shubhanjali Sharma-Naveen Kasturia

‘OUR
PARENTS
WANTED
US TO GET
MARRIED,
AND WE
SAID YES’

In his first interview after his wedding, actor Naveen Kasturia tells us about his short and sweet love story with wife Shubhanjali Sharma
Akash Bhatnagar (HINDUSTAN TIMES; December 6, 2024)

Actor Naveen Kasturia’s fans were in for a pleasant surprise when he got married to girlfriend Shubhanjali Sharma on December 2 in Udaipur (Rajasthan). In his first interview after the wedding, the actor opens up about their love story. “We met through a mutual friend in Pune. She and I are both engineers and we hit it off. We stayed in touch after that meeting and eventually fell in love. We dated for less than two years before getting married,” he says.

Ask Kasturia when he decided to take the plunge, and he responds, “We didn’t think about marriage primarily, but our parents played a big part in us tying the knot. The discussion started when Shubhanjali’s father met my parents. Our parents wanted us to get married, and we said ‘yes’.”

The actor can’t stop gushing about his wife. “I don’t think I’ve met anyone like Shubhanjali. I am not very good with words, but I feel very easy and calm with her. She is my best friend, and she looks for the good in everyone. I think I’m very lucky,” he says, adding, “Main darpok kisam ka aadmi hoon. I get intimidated by a lot of things, but ever since she has come into my life, I feel stronger, mentally.”

Kasturia reveals that he and his bride were “the producers and organizers” of their big day. “I wanted to keep it intimate but we were about 65 people who flew only from Delhi as I have a huge family,” says the actor, who also had some friends from the industry in attendance, including actors Amol Parashar, Suhail Nayyar and Sharib Hashmi. His OTT outing Aspirants’ co-stars Sunny Hinduja and Shivankit Singh Parihar were also present.

Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari team begin three-week schedule in Udaipur

Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor, Sanya Malhotra film 'Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari' in Udaipur

Varun, Janhvi, Sanya kick off Udaipur leg of Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari; director to film all ensemble sequences in stint
Mohar Basu (MID-DAY; September 10, 2024)

The joy of an ensemble film is that it feels less like work and more like fun. The cast of Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari would agree. After kicking off Shashank Khaitan’s directorial venture in May in Mumbai, Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor have now headed to Udaipur.

Akshay Oberoi, who is part of the romantic comedy that also features Sanya Malhotra and Rohit Saraf, says the ongoing schedule has been delightful. “Anyone can imagine the scenario on the set—the laughter, the bonding, and all the fun behind the scenes. I’m enjoying every bit of it,” he shares.

We hear Khaitan has charted out a three-week schedule in Rajasthan during which most combination scenes will be canned. The unit will follow it up with another stint in Mumbai. Oberoi says being part of Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari has only reinforced his faith in ensemble films.

“I remember those ’80s films that had all the stars— from Vinod Khanna to Jackie Shroff and Anil Kapoor. The audiences used to love those movies because they would see so many different characters on screen. [Another advantage is] that the weight of the entire film does not rest on one person. Ensemble films bring your favourite heroes together on screen; we should be doing more of them.”

Akriti Kakar back on stage less than a month after delivery

Akriti back on stage less than a month after delivery
Soumya Vajpayee (HINDUSTAN TIMES; December 7, 2023)

Singer Akriti Kakar has surprised everyone by returning to the stage just 28 days after delivering her son Mehraan on November 1. “Since my gynaecologist and my family know what music means to me, everyone was supportive of my decision to get back on stage if my body allowed. It’s a blessing to have a solid support system at home,” says Kakar, who prioritized comfort by going barefoot for her performance in Udaipur on November 29.

But, the new mum makes sure to plan everything in advance before leaving for work. “I take care of my diet and body as I want to breastfeed for as long as he’d like, so I plan his feeds. And amid all the cuddles, burps, loving and feeding, music helps me deal with postpartum in the best way possible,” explains the Iski Uski (2 States, 2014) hitmaker.

However, in the age of social media, wading through judgements and unsolicited advice can be stressful for new mums. But Kakar chooses to focus on the positives and says, “The judgement and advice is never-ending. But, I know my son will be proud of his mum for doing her best while not compromising on his upbringing.”

Admitting that “mom guilt” is as real as it gets, the singer adds that you can’t get rid of it “even if your child is 30”. “However, I’m inspired by many working women around me, including my mum, who resumed teaching after I and my sisters were born,” wraps up the 37-year-old, who is planning more gigs.

Parineeti Chopra, Raghav Chadha exchange wedding wows at lakeside hotel in Udaipur

Parineeti and AAP leader Raghav exchange wedding vows at lakeside hotel in presence of politicians Kejriwal, Mann; singer Hans reveals how the bride requested him to end sangeet performance with her favourite song, Rabba
Upala KBR , Priyanka Sharma (MID-DAY; September 25, 2023)

A sea of people dressed in hues of white, boats sailing across Lake Pichola, and at the centre of it all, the groom going across the lake to wed his ladylove. This is what fairytale weddings are made of. And it came true for actor Parineeti Chopra and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) member Raghav Chadha, who tied the knot at the Leela Palace in Udaipur yesterday.

The guest list was diverse, representing the two different worlds that the couple hail from—while the ladkiwale included tennis star-friend Sania Mirza and couturier Manish Malhotra, the politician-groom’s baaraat comprised Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Yuva Sena’s Aaditya Thackeray.

On D-day, the festivities began at 1 pm with Chadha’s sehra bandi at the Taj Lake Palace Hotel, where the groom’s side was put up. Around 2.30 pm, the baaraat along with local musicians made their way across the lake in boats, decorated with white flowers, to the Leela Palace for the nuptials.

A source reveals, “The baaraat milni, where the bride’s family welcomes the groom and wedding procession, took place at 3.30 pm, followed by the varmala ceremony and saat pheras. Keen to keep it subtle, the couple had chosen a pearl-white theme for the occasion. Parineeti wore a Manish Malhotra lehenga, drape and veil, all embellished with crystals. Raghav complemented her perfectly in an ivory-coloured sherwani, designed by uncle Pawan Sachdeva. His uncle, in fact, designed his outfits for the entire round of festivities.”

The nuptials that wrapped up by 6.30 pm were followed by a reception at 9 pm.

On Saturday, the couple hosted a sangeet ceremony. Chopra, an ardent fan of Punjabi music, roped in singer-actor Navraj Hans to perform at the ceremony.

When mid-day reached out to Hans, he said, “I sang Mundeya, Dumadum mast kalandar, Bolo tara rara, and ’90s songs, including Mere khwabon mein jo aaye. I sang Parineeti’s song Zehnaseeb too. She wanted me to end the show with Rabba, which is her favourite. She said, ‘You cannot leave without singing it.’ Both of them danced to all the numbers, including Gud naal ishq mitha.”

The newly-weds are expected to host a reception later this month in Delhi-NCR, and another in Mumbai.

Sugandha Rawal (HINDUSTAN TIMES; September 25, 2023)

Actor Parineeti Chopra and politician Raghav Chadha’s wedding celebrations were a stylish affair in Udaipur (Rajasthan).

The couple had a blast at their cocktail-sangeet party that had a ‘Let’s Party Like It’s The ‘90s’ theme. Singer Navraj Hans serenaded the couple with Gur Nalo Ishq Mitha, Dil Chori Sada Ho Gaya and their favourite ’90s hits. The couple danced for around three hours. The menu included stalls of chaats, popcorn, candy floss and Maggi.

Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, designer Manish Malhotra, tennis player Sania Mirza, and cricketer Harbhajan Singh, among others attended the wedding.

Chadha’s outfits were designed by his maternal uncle, designer Pawan Sachdeva: “Raghav doesn’t wear anything that is heavy on embellishment. We replaced embroidery with texture on the fabric so that it looks rich and heavy. I made two or three looks for each function and he picked from them.”

In some photos circulating online, Chopra can be seen donning a silver three-piece ensemble and her husband-to-be sporting a navy blue jacket suit. The couple had a pearl-and-white theme for the entire wedding. Chopra also opted for minimal mehndi.

#RAGNEETI’S HALDI CEREMONY
The couple had a joint haldi ceremony on September 23. A source tells us, “It was high on Punjabi vibes and songs. There was traditional giddha, too, which added a special touch and got the whole family together to shake a leg.”

Parineeti Chopra and Raghav Chadha’s wedding festivities began with a chooda ceremony in Udaipur yesterday. Parineeti’s maternal uncle gifted her a set of red chooda. The wedding venue, situated beside Lake Pichola, was adorned with floral decorations. Following the chooda ceremony, mehendi and haldi rituals unfolded with close family and friends in attendance.

The welcome lunch, named ‘Blooms and Bites’, offered a taste of Rajasthani culture through its cuisine and decor. In the evening, guests enjoyed a sangeet night with a ’90s Bollywood theme, titled ‘Let’s Party Like the ’90s’.

Guests seen at the airport included Bhagyashree and Himalaya Dasani, Aamna Sharif and actor-poet Shailesh Lodha. The shaadi is set to be a starstudded affair, with politicians and Bollywood celebrities expected to attend.

As per reports, along with Rajasthan police officials, a team of 100 private security personnel has been deployed at the wedding venue. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel and Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot are expected to attend the reception.

RAGHAV TO WEAR A SHERWANI FOR THE SHAADI
Raghav’s outfits for the wedding have been designed by his uncle, fashion designer Pawan Sachdeva. The designer says, “Raghav likes it subtle and classy, as it goes with his style, persona and profession. He hates embroidery or anything flashy. So, I created textures on fabrics without any embroidery, so it looks like a wedding attire. For the wedding, he will be wearing a sherwani. For the haldi and mehendi ceremonies, he wore different styles of kurtas.”

The Delhi-based designer also revealed that the groom’s trousseau comprises “Indo-western outfits, tuxedos (that he will wear for the wedding reception tonight), asymmetrical cuts and bandi set.” Sachdeva adds, “All of them are a mix of sharp cuts with minimalistic designs.”

PC WILL BE MISSING FROM THE WEDDING
Parineeti’s cousin Priyanka Chopra won’t be coming down from the US to attend the wedding. Yesterday, Priyanka took to social media to wish her sister for her big day. She shared a picture that has Parineeti smiling and wrote, “I hope you are as happy and content as this on your big day little one.. always wishing you so much love #newbeginnings @ parineetichopra @ raghavchadha88 (sic).”

Tell us about how the two of you met?
Ed: I made the first move. We were invited to an event in England at a racetrack. I was there with my friend, who knew Amy. So, I walked over and asked her out on a coffee date. I knew we both had pets, so I even suggested we could walk our dogs (smiles).
Amy: I definitely fancied him before I met him, but I was a little shy when he came over to talk. I was looking for a new place in London at the time and he suggested that we could check out a new area and grab a coffee. That was very smooth. But it was walking the dogs that won me over.

What drew you to each other?
Ed: Amy has this wonderful ability to be strong and kind at the same time. If Amy and I end up having a daughter, she is the perfect person to teach that little girl how to be a woman.
Amy: He is very connected to my emotions and feelings. We can say a million things to each other without saying a word. He has great communication skills and gets me.

Is marriage on the cards?
Ed: We both are in a good place and we both want that. When the time strikes, yes, maybe! I got to keep it a surprise, right?
Amy: Yes. We are very happy and cemented.

Ed, were you aware of the massive popularity that Gossip Girl continues to have in India?
I have some Indian friends in London who told me about it, but I wasn’t aware of the extent of it. I had a very warm and surprising welcome here. It feels good to know that people continue to like Chuck Bass.
Amy: He is being stopped nonstop for pictures. I will speak for him because he will be modest. It’s nice to see the love he has been getting here.

Ed, It happened during Twilight, but do you still get compared to Robert Pattinson because how similar you two look?
Not since a long time but he is a good-looking guy and a great actor so why not?

Amy, it’s been a while since you moved back to the UK. How does it feel like to be in India again?
I am back and I am better. I’ve returned after four years, and it feels incredible. I feel like I picked up where I left off. Mumbai has changed a lot. There are buildings left right and center, but the people are still the same. I kept in touch with my close friends here. It’s nice to be back, have that reunion and make some new memories. I missed this a lot.

A lot happened in the past few years. You became a mother. You have a beautiful baby boy from a previous relationship. You are also getting back to the movies. Take us through this new phase of your life.
I will be shuttling between India and the UK. I have two movies here that I am working on. The South one is ready, the Bollywood one will begin soon. I am a working mom now. I want my son (Andreas Jax Panayiotou) to be proud of what I am doing. I want to support him. He has been to India. He came for one of the shoots with me. I want him to see this world and see me working.

Would you like to see Ed working in a Bollywood movie, too someday?
He’s got the dance moves so I think he can do it.

Ed, this is your first visit to India. What struck you the most about Mumbai?
Ed: It’s my first experience of being in India. I love it, I can feel the pulse, the energy. Mumbai takes the intensity to another level. I have lived in New York, Los Angeles and London but Mumbai is go-go-go, the pace is insane. There is so much activity. The spirit of the people is high. I am excited to make this the first of many trips. I don’t why it took me so long to come here but now I have a beautiful reason to come for. Amy is working on a movie here. I am incredibly proud and excited for her. I am very happy to be here.
Amy: Mumbai is really the city that never sleeps. It can put New York to shame when it comes to being lively and busy.

Did you have any perception about India that was debunked once you landed here?
Ed: I don’t think I had fully grasped what a monsoon season was until I got to Mumbai. Now I do. The city is vibrant even in monsoon. If I like it here in this weather, I am going to love it in the sunshine, right? There have been no surprises as such. It’ just what I expected. A very busy place filled with lovely people. I knew the food was amazing. Indian food is the number one take-out food in the UK and will always be. We had a thaali for lunch in Mumbai the other day. They kept bringing the food and I kept eating it.
Amy: He had four portions, which is great. Food plays a prominent role in every English household and Indian food is extremely popular in the UK. Not just the food but even the culture. Jay-Z performing a remix of Panjabi MC’s ‘Mundian To Bach Ke’ or Diljit Dosanjh at Coachella, the crossover was spectacular. Lines are getting blurred and Indian films or music are getting more international.

The city is cooler in monsoon, so most of us Mumbaikars in fact, prefer the rain.
Ed: Many have said that, and I am trying to understand where you are coming from (smiles). I love some sunshine and blue skies.
Amy: We come from London so if we weren’t in sunshine that’s okay. Before heading back to the UK, we are going to Udaipur to see some Rajasthani culture and palaces. We want to experience another part of India. Everyone was warning us that it’s going to be so hot there but that’s exactly what we want.

Amy, you have shot extensively in India for films in several languages. Any places that you particularly want Ed to see?
I desperately wanted him to visit Mumbai first. This city is my second home. I have lived here for many years and have the best memories. It was important for me that he saw this side of my life and met the people that are close to me. I asked him if he wanted to go north or south, he said north, so we chose Rajasthan. I shot ‘Singh Is Bliing’ in Punjab, which was amazing. The food was incredible, but I thought this time around he could see some palaces, get immersed in the culture and sunshine and Udaipur isn’t too far so we chose that. I also want him to see Kerala. We want to come back desperately and visit the elephants in Tamil Nadu. Chennai is also like a home. I have spent countless days there. I want him to see the whole country. I have made a list.

Ed, how familiar are you with Indian films?
I am not very familiar, but I have a list of movies recommended to me by people on this trip. I am going to watch them. Yash Raj directed me to their documentary ‘The Romantics’. I will watch that to learn a bit more about Indian cinema. I love Amy’s movies of course.

30 Years of Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke: Only assistants worked on Ghoonghat Ki Aad Se-Juhi Chawla

Only assistants worked on Ghoonghat Ki Aad Se: Juhi
Kavita Awaasthi (HINDUSTAN TIMES; July 23, 2023)

One of the biggest highlights of Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (1993), which completes 30 years of its release today, was the song Ghoonghat Ki Aad Se, composed by Nadeem-Shravan. Actor Juhi Chawla recalls that she and co-actor Aamir Khan memorably joined forces with just assistants for the filming of the song in Udaipur, Rajasthan.

“We had shot the film and just this song was left. I don’t know why but only the assistants turned up on shoot. Mahesh Bhatt (director), Tahir saab (Hussain, producer), Pravin Bhatt (cinematographer), Saroj Khan (choreographer) — everyone sent theirs. The kids were so talented. Sometimes, you can’t explain how magic happens,” the actor recalls, adding that Khan was “very hands-on while shooting” with his suggestions, as it was his father’s production.

“In one of the scenes, he told me to jump before I started running, to give the scene a comic feel. He kept a poker face in certain scenes, knowing if he did that, the situation and all of us acting would look funnier,” she signs off.

Parineeti Chopra, Raghav Chadha to tie the knot at Priyanka Chopra, Nick Jonas's wedding venue?

Parineeti Chopra, Raghav Chadha to tie the knot at Priyanka Chopra, Nick Jonas's wedding venue?

Sources inform that Parineeti Chopra and Raghav Chadha will tie the knot at Priyanka and Nick’s wedding venue, the Umaid Bhavan Palace in Jodhpur
Upala KBR (MID-DAY; June 11, 2023)

Wedding shenanigans go on until D-Day. Parineeti Chopra and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Raghav Chadha, who had a dreamy engagement on May 13, have been scouting venues for some time. The couple was seen visiting a few palace hotels in Rajasthan last month. Sources reveal that the wedding festivities will begin by October-end, spilling into the first week of November.

While rumours have been rife that the couple were considering getting married at the Oberoi Udaivilas Palace in Udaipur, a source informs, “The Umaid Bhavan Palace, in Jodhpur is a strong option too. It is known to be the biggest palace in India, with spacious air-conditioned rooms and suites designed for royalty.”

Coincidentally, the Umaid Bhavan Palace was also the venue of Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Nick Jonas’s wedding in 2018, which is rumoured to have cost about Rs. 3 crores.

“The sangeet and mehendi ceremonies will take place at the palace hotel, followed by an intimate party with close friends and relatives. After the wedding, two receptions will be held, one and Delhi and the other in Mumbai. While Priyanka and Nick’s wedding was a grand one, Parineeti and Raghav’s nuptials will be an intimate affair, with attendance only from a few people from Bollywood. Parineeti is organizing every tiny detail herself,” the source adds.

On the work front, Chopra has Shiddat 2, which she will wrap up right before the wedding. The actor will pick up Imtiaz Ali’s Chamkila after a two-week break in November.

Actor Parineeti Chopra and politico Raghav Chadha’s frenetic venue search hints at a big fat Indian wedding
Navya Kharbanda (HINDUSTAN TIMES; June 11, 2023)

Actor Parineeti Chopra and politician Raghav Chadha are busy scouting the perfect venue for their wedding in Rajasthan. They were spotted at Jaipur airport in May and stayed with their families in Udaipur for a few days as they carried out their recce.

While a recent report claims that the couple, who got engaged on May 13, have finalised The Oberoi Udaivilas in Udaipur for the wedding, we have learnt from our sources that the couple is still on the hunt.

“Nothing has been confirmed so far. They did not like the room size at Udaivilas, and the room inventory (87 rooms) wasn’t sufficient either. Taj Lake Palace, too, didn’t make it to the shortlisted venues for the latter reason. They might pick any of these for the wedding functions, but all the guests cannot be accommodated here. So, it’s clear that their guest list is not small and it’s going to be a big fat wedding,” the source says, adding that the couple has shortlisted two properties in Jaipur (Sawai Man Mahal and Rambagh Palace) and Udaipur (Taj Aravali and Mementos) each.

The couple will tie the knot on October 28 or 29, according to sources. “Their family and close relatives from the engagement will be there for the wedding. There will be two receptions, one for Parineeti’s extended family from Ambala (Chandigarh) and one for the film fraternity (Mumbai),” says the source.

Meanwhile, the couple has been spending time in London together. A picture of them watching the India vs Australia World Test Championship final at the Oval was shared widely by Chopra’s fan clubs. The couple has previously attended IPL 2023 matches in Mohali too. A photo of Chadha and Chopra posing with a fan in the UK capital (below) also went viral.

Actor Parineeti Chopra and politician Raghav Chadha are likely to wed in Rajasthan. The couple has started looking at venues in the state for their wedding, tentatively scheduled between September and November.

On Saturday, Parineeti looked at luxe heritage hotels in Udaipur, say sources. She took a boat ride on Lake Pichola to soak in the evening vibe of the city and even met Shikha Saxena, deputy director, Regional Tourism Office, Udaipur.

Saxena tells us, “She loved the traditional welcome at heritage hotels, with rose petals and music. It gave her a feel of how the guests will be welcomed. I suggested November, she seemed open to the idea.”

On Sunday, the couple reportedly looked at venues in Kishangarh. They also plan to explore Jaipur.

Sidharth-Kiara, Vicky-Katrina, Priyanka-Nick: Royal Rajasthan is the favourite venue for celeb weddings

Plenty of options and privacy make the land of maharajas a befitting setting for starry nuptials, say wedding planners
Divya Kaushik (BOMBAY TIMES; February 13, 2023)

The much-anticipated Sidharth Malhotra-Kiara Advani wedding at a fort hotel in Jaisalmer brought back the spotlight (yet again) on Rajasthan and showed us how the land of maharajas continues to be the favourite wedding destination for celebrity couples. From Elizabeth Hurley-Arun Nayyar and Priyanka Chopra-Nick Jonas to Vicky Kaushal-Katrina Kaif, over the years there have been many celebrity couples who chose to exchange their vows in Rajasthan’s regal surroundings. Wedding planners say that ample options of forts, palaces and heritage properties and the privacy they offer are some of the reasons why most celebrities opt for Rajasthan to say ‘I do’.

While it is true that picture-perfect locations, popular heritage properties and the charm of royal weddings attract celeb couples to the desert state when it comes to tying the knot, complete privacy from paps and curious onlookers is another reason why celebs prefer Rajasthan as a wedding destination.

“I think after Priyanka Chopra-Nick Jonas and Vicky Kaushal-Katrina Kaif’s weddings, most celebs are sure that it is very difficult to breach the privacy and security at heritage properties in Rajasthan. Also, these properties are usually located at remote locations, away from the main cities, which also helps high-profile couples keep their big day a private affair. We have been in talks with a celebrity couple who is planning to get married by the end of this year, and they want the wedding at a palace in Rajasthan, which can be fully booked and blocked for outsiders for four days of wedding festivities,” says a Mumbai-based wedding planner, who organised a celeb wedding in Udaipur last year.

“Privacy and security are of high importance when planning a celebrity wedding. Also, the quality of services, hospitality and crisis management at the event is to be minutely monitored. The other reasons why Rajasthan is the most preferred wedding destination are its royal charm, rustic beauty and authentic venue options, like the spectacular forts and palaces,” says Rajat Gera, Director of Sales & Marketing of the heritage hotel that hosted Vicky-Katrina’s wedding.

‘AFTER SID-KIARA’S WEDDING, QUERIES FOR JAISALMER HAVE INCREASED’
In the popularity chart, Udaipur and Jodhpur are rated higher than Jaipur, and wedding planners say that this is because of the availability of better heritage, luxury properties. “Also, Jaipur is mostly overbooked in the wedding season, and celebs look for an exclusive venue that is far away from the city centre. After Sid-Kiara’s wedding, queries for Jaisalmer have increased,” says Minnat Lalpuria, founder and CEO of a company that helps clients with luxury wedding destinations.

Anchor and event organiser Nitin Arora says, “Jaisalmer is becoming popular for celeb weddings, and thanks to Sid-Kiara’s shaadi, people have started looking for offbeat havelis and luxury palaces on the outskirts of Jaisalmer,” says Arora.

WOW FACTOR FOR FIRANG GUESTS
Apart from Bollywood couples, there are many other celebs who had their wedding in Rajasthan – including Isha Ambani’s wedding in Udaipur. Wedding planners say that connectivity of major cities in Rajasthan with other metros is one reason why it is easier to plan a high-profile wedding there.

“Anyone who is having guests from overseas, would want to have a palace or fort wedding in Rajasthan. Popular locations like Udaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer and Jaipur have good flight connectivity,” says Arora.
