THE DIPLOMAT collected 6.50 crore nett in its second weekend dropping a little over 50% from the first weekend which had the boost for Holi. So, the fair vale drop is under 50% which is a decent trend but the issue is that the numbers are low. It is always easier to hold at these lower level collections.

The film is doing best in Mumbai circuit with collections closing in 10 crore nett while Mysore and Delhi/UP would be next best. The Hindi circuits have not done well at all with low collections in the likes of Rajasthan and CI. The overall total of the film is now 25.50 crore nett.

The second week should go into double figures and and it will have another couple of days in the third week to add to numbers before the arrival of SIKANDAR on Sunday. It will be tough after that as CHHAAVA will mainly gets the screens left by SIKANDAR.

THE DIPLOMAT collected 19 crore nett over its first week with collections holding well over the weekdays at a similar level though they remained at a low level. Now if the film can hold on Thursday to the same level as Friday, then it will have a shot to get the 30 crore nett plus. A better hold on Monday towards the 2 crore nett would have given it a shot at 40 core nett. The film still has a shot at getting similar numbers to films like DEVA and BABY JOHN which was not expected before release.

There can be case for this film that more awareness and promotion push could have pushed the opening collections which may have enabled the film to have some chance of success. The failing of the film looks to be the initial as though a 4 crore nett number looks pretty good on paper, it came because of Holi and fair value was probably 2.25-2.50 crore nett.

THE DIPLOMAT collected around 1.25 crore nett on its second Friday which is a drop of 10% from the previous day which takes the film to a little over 20 crore nett. The film is probably targeting a 30 crore nett finish but with no major release it could have done better. There is always a possibility of a jump on a Friday when no releases but with this genre its probably tougher.

THE DIPLOMAT collected 1.50 crore nett on Tuesday which is similar to the collections on Monday but it could have done with a little jump as collections are generally steady on Tuesday. This now takes the film to 16 crore nett plus and it will be looking at a 19 crore nett apprx first week which is a low number especially as the film will just get a two week run.

There can be case for this film that more awareness and promotion push could have pushed the opening collections which may have enabled the film to have some chance of success. THE DIPLOMAT collected 1.50 crore nett on Monday which is 60% down from Friday. But Friday was Holi and hence, the real drop from the film is probably 30-35% which is not bad. It ensures the film gets a second week run but the film needed a better Monday and collections at higher levels over the weekdays.

The film needed to be closer to the 2 crore nett range though this was going to be tough as its asking for a 10-15% drop from the fair value number of Friday. The total of the film is now 14.85 crore nett and its probably looking at a 19 crore nett first week which is a low collection for the film.

The problem for the film is also that it only has a little over 2 weeks until the flow of releases start which will end the run of the film. If the release was a few weeks earlier, then this hold would have been good enough to give it an extended run but with big films in the way, it will be a two week run.

THE DIPLOMAT collected 13 crore nett plus over its first weekend which is low collection but the trend of the film was good. This does not show up in the numbers due to Holi but the film basically matched the trend of a blockbuster holdover film like CHHAAVA. It means the actual growth on Saturday could have been 70-80% or even more.

The numbers are not much as to what the film needs but they are higher than what would have been expected especially as the film was released with no hype and promotion. This actually does not matter if the film has the elements to the masses interested but this is not that type of film and so, it probably needed a push.

The weekend trend is good enough but more crucial is what happens on Monday and eventually the film is in that thriller zone where holds are tougher. The Monday is crucial if the film is to get a decent run until Eid. It will run until Eid but a Monday hold can mean at decent levels of business.

THE DIPLOMAT surprised on its second day as it managed some healthy growth with collections of 4.50 crore nett. The film got Holi benefit on day one which is why, it managed collections which were inflated. Hence, its a good result for the film that Saturday has gone up further. The two day numbers of the film ae 8.50 crore nett which is not much. But considering zero hype and no commercial elements to get the public in, not many would have expected this film to be standing at 8.50 crore nett after two days.

The trend on Saturday is pretty much the same as CHHAAVA which is an established blockbuster film. This means there could be some appreciation for THE DIPLOMAT at places. There is Holi leftover at places but those places were generally down or flat from Friday and the growth has come in the metro multiplexes.

It is difficult to tell what fair value growth on Saturday is but it will be very strong as the trend is the same as CHHAAVA and that film could be doubling up if it was a normal Friday and Saturday. The Diplomat will find it hard to match the CHHAAVA growth on Sunday as the Vicky Kaushal-starrer has a bigger reach in mass pockets. But the numbers so far give THE DIPLOMAT a chance of a run at the box office.

THE DIPLOMAT got the advantage of Holi as collections picked post the afternoon and the film collected around 4 crore nett. This is the normal scenario for Holi but 4 crore is probably more than you would have thought in the morning. On the other side, those morning collections don't mean much on Holi as generally in many parts, there is no audience.

The film is competing with CHHAAVA in North and East India and some centers have managed better collections though numbers in Mumbai and South are far better for CHHAAVA despite being on fifth Friday. A film like DEVA had collected 5.50 crore nett on day one. Although these collections are on Holi, it compares well with that film considering the size of the films and the fact that THE DIPLOMAT has no promotion or music.

If the film can go up from here, it would actually have some chances of a decent figure but that is going to be the hard part as though collections ran well on Friday afternoon and evening, it is probably down to Holi. Though it is Saturday, it is likely to be slower though like for like at the moment, it is ahead of Friday morning.

Holi is over a few days in many circuits but THE DIPLOMAT does not look a film for Hindi circuits where the holiday leftover be there. So, it remains to be seen where it goes.
