ROCK ON 2 crashed in the second weekend with collections down 96% from the first weekend. The film has also met with a similar fate in Overseas and the Worldwide gross will remain below 20 crore. Below are the collections of ROCK ON 2 till date.
Week One - 10,03,00,000
Week Two - 25,00,000
TOTAL - 10,28,00,000 apprx

SHIVAAY had a huge fall in the fourth weekend and has now almost come to the end of its run. It is the seventh highest grosser of 2016 and will finish its run with 85 crore nett. The Worldwide business of the film will be 133 crore which is seventh best for an Ajay Devgn starrer. The India collections of SHIVAAY till date are as follows.
Week One - 63,47,00,000
Week Two - 17,56,00,000
Week Three - 3,22,00,000

TOTAL - 84,60,00,000
------------------------
AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL continued to drop in the fourth weekend with collections around 75 lakhs nett in the fourth weekend. The film has now crossed the business of BARFI to become the second highest grosser of Ranbir Kapoor. AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL would have probably finished at 110 crore nett if there was not the cash crunch. It is the 6th highest grosser of 2016 and is in position 37 as far as all time goes. Below are the collections of AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL till date.
Week One - 78,10,00,000
Week Two - 21,98,00,000
Week Three - 4,85,00,000
Weekend Four - 75,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 1,05,68,00,000
The film has fared better in Overseas becoming the 15th highest grosser ever. Outside films of Aamir, Salman and Shah Rukh Khan it is the second highest grosser. Overseas after BAJIRAO MASTANI which had the hugely beneficial for Overseas Xmas release. Worldwide terms it has 228 crore which is the second highest figure of 2016 and the 19th highest figure of all time. The Worldwide figures of the film till date are as follows.

FORCE 2 was the only film doing some business this week as the holdover releases all were low. The Hollywood new release FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM grossed around 2 crore nett which was less than what DOCTOR STRANGE opened to a few weeks back. DOCTOR STRANGE has emerged a success over the demonetizing period and is likely to finish with business around 25 crore nett which is pretty good for a film over this period and releases on 675 theatres. The apprx collections of holdover releases and the new Hollywood release ANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM are below.
New Release
Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them - 1,75,00,000
Holdover Releases
Rock On 2 - 8,00,000 (Day 8)
Doctor Strange - 25,00,000 (Day 15)
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil - 15,00,000 (Day 22)
Shivaay - 10,00,000 (Day 22)
Both the Diwali releases AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL and SHIVAAY which are in their respective fourth weeks were collecting better than ROCK ON 2 in its second week.

AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL had a drop in collections in its third week as a new release albeit a disaster came and took screen space away and there was also the cash crunch. The film collected around 4.75 crore nett in the third week taking its three week figures to 105 crore nett aprx. The drop in the third week is around 78% compared to 72% in the second week which was coming off a big holiday week. The film is on the verge of crossing BARFI and becoming the second highest Ranbir Kapoor grosser and it should achieve that in the next few days. The lifetime business of the film is looking to be 107 crore nett. Below are the collections of AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL till date.
Week One - 78,10,00,000
Week Two - 21,98,00,000
Week Three - 4,75,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 1,04,83,00,000
SHIVAAY dropped 86% in the third week which was more than AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL despite having a similar trending to that film in the second week. This is basically because the cash crunch has hit the film more as it was doing better comparatively in B and C centres of CP Berar, CI, Rajasthan Maharashtra and Gujarat where a huge chunk of tickets are bought by cash while in the bigger centres a good chunk of tickets are bought by credt/debit cards and also net banking through website ticketing. The total stands at around 83.50 crore nett and looks an 85 crore nett finish for the film. The collections of SHIVAAY till date are as follows.
Week One - 63,47,00,000
Week Two - 17,56,00,000
Week Three - 2,50,00,000 apprx

AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL dropped in the third week as it collected around 3 crore nett taking its total to 103 crore nett. The collections started falling on Wednesday due to the cash crunch and went on through the weekend though it managed healthy growth on Saturday. The film has probably lost 3-4 crore nett over the last 5-6 days and the chance to cross 110 crore nett is probably lost. The finish is looking 106-107 crore nett. Below are the collections of AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL till date.
Week One - 78,10,00,000
Week Two - 21,98,00,000
Third Weekend - 3,00,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 1,03,08,00,000
SHIVAAY was heavily affected by the cash crunch as business smaller centres came down very badly from Wednesday onwards. In fact this film film has been hurt most by the cash crunch probably by 15-20% more than AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL. The film looked to be getting near 90 crore nett but that is impossible now and a likely finish of 84-85 crore nett.
Week One - 63,47,00,000
Week Two - 17,56,00,000
Third Weekend - 1,50,00,000 apprx

SHIVAAY grossed 19.25 crore nett in its second week taking its total to 82.75 crore nett plus in two weeks. The drop in the second week is 69% which is fair. The film did suffer on Wednesday and Thursday due to the currency issues going in India which has simply meant theatres getting lower footfalls. This trend is likely to prevail for some time yet and so the third week will also be affected. The best business of the film is in Mumbai circuit which has crossed 30 crore nett with a strong contribution from Gujarat/Saurashtra. it is the second highest grosser in Gujarat/Saurashtra after SULTAN. The business of SHIVAAY after two weeks is as follows.
Week One - 63,47,00,000
Week Two - 19,25,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 82,72,00,000 apprx
The film looked heading for around 90 crore nett but will probably fall a little short now due to issues regarding currency in India. It is likely to show a weaker trend in the third week than the second week. Overall the distributors will lose due to high prices but on cost against recovery (actual recoveries, not prices paid) its decent and the rebate from Bulgaria will put it in plus but not enough to cover the distributor losses. Average fare.
Diwali not upto the mark again due to underperformance of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil & Shivaay

Diwali has again not lived up to the expectations with neither AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL or SHIVAAY becoming big grossers with the former just about becoming a hit but with huge help from the recoveries in the Overseas market while SHIVAAY is an average fare. The last time Diwali saw a blockbuster way back in 2010 with GOLMAAL 3 and before that was OM SHANTI OM in 2007. In 90's the biggest blockbusters tended to come on Diwali every year be it DILWALE DULHANIA LE JAYENGE (1995), RAJA HINDUSTANI (1996), DIL TO PAGAL HAI (1997), KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI (1998), HUM SAATH SAATH HAIM (1999), MOHABBATEIN (2000).
All these films have an inflation adjusted nett gross of 250 crore nett or more. It could be the period is not as lucrative today as the two other main festive periods of Eid and Xmas or the films have not been good enough content wise. The latter is probably the main reason as if Eid and Xmas can easily go past 300 crore nett then surely Diwali should be 250 crore nett at least if not 300 crore nett. The potential of Diwali will only be known when that all India blockbuster comes on Diwali.
The business model today means that a blockbuster film is only going to come on a holiday period unless its an outstanding film and these are not being made today so because of this it becomes very important to have big numbers on Diwali, not just Diwali but Eid, Xmas and other holidays periods. This years Diwali releases are not bad with AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL set to have a worldwide theatrical share of 85 crore and having total recoveries of around 150 crore but the domestic business on Diwali should have been more as 100 crore nett from this would have been expected on any other day let alone Diwali due to the super hit music and names involved in the film.
SHIVAAY has gone the JAI HO and DILWALE way with the distributors losing due to high prices paid but its not too bad on its cost with recovery from all revenue sources set to be around 100 crore and a big rebate from Bulgaria to come. The difference between JAI HO and DILWALE is that the profits made by makers could compensate the distributors if the makers wanted to and the DILWALE makers did but with SHIVAAY the recoveries including rebate are not high enough to do that. Even though it had just one Ajay Devgn and nothing else much going for it, a 100 crore nett grosser should have been there on Diwali.

SHIVAAY is heading for 20 crore nett second week which will take it to 83.50 crore nett in two weeks. The problem for the film was always going to be that it looked more like a thriller rather than an action film from the theatrical and simply put thrillers in India find it tough unless we go back to the days of DARR and AGNI SAKSHI which were helped by super hit music. The highest grosser in the thriller genre this year was FAN which SHIVAAY will cross sometime in its third weekend. Last year was BABY and it will cross that today. FAN did 84 crore nett and BABY was less than 82 crore nett. So in terms of genre it will put up a decent total but the problem is the high prices paid by distributors in India and Overseas. The business of SHIVAAY till date is as follows
Week One - 63,47,00,000
Friday - 3,25,00,000
Saturday - 4,25,00,000
Sunday - 5,75,00,000
Monday - 2,00,00,000
Tuesday - 1,75,00,000 apprx

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil & Shivaay had similar footfalls in Week 1

The Diwali clash may have gone in favour of AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL as far the business is concerned but the footfalls of both films are very similar after the first week of business. It could be that by the end of its run that SHIVAAY actually takes the lead. Both films have recorded footfalls in the range of 75 lakhs in the first week with AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL having an average ticket price of Rs 145 and and SHIVAAY being at Rs 120. These ATP's will come down in second week for both films as there is no raised ticket rates due to holidays this week. The difference is mainly due to high end multiplexes where SHIVAAY had a lower ratio of business and a higher ratio of single screen business with around 30% coming from single screens. The footfall details for the first week for both films are as follows.
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil
Nett - 78,10,00,000
Gross - 1,08,42,00,000
Footfalls - 74,59,000
ATP (Average Ticket Price) - 145.35
Shivaay
Nett - 63,47,00,000
Gross - 89,16,00,000
Footfalls - 74,21,000
ATP (Average Ticket Price) - 120.14
The footfalls don't make difference as far the profit or loss of the film is concerned but its important for the stars of the film as its footfalls that give idea of reach rather than the gross as India has such huge variance of ticket rates. Eventually popularity is measured by the number of people rather than the amount of rupees.

SHIVAAY continued its fair run on its second Monday as it grossed around 2 crore nett. The collections are now at low levels but it will gross around 20 crore nett in its second week which is a 68% week on week drop which is fair and par for the course. Though coming off a holiday week it can be said its better than decent but on the other hand despite the first week being holiday week it was on the lower side. The total of the film is close to 79 crore nett in eleven days which is higher than the film would have expected to do after the first weekend. The business of SHIVAAY till date is as follows.
Week One - 63,47,00,000
Friday - 3,25,00,000
Saturday - 4,25,00,000
Sunday - 5,75,00,000
Monday - 2,00,00,000 apprx
Second Week - 15,25,00,000 apprx(4 Days)
TOTAL - 78,72,00,000
The second Monday figure means the film is looking to close at a little under 90 crore nett or maybe hit 90 crore nett if its a bit lucky in the third week. This is a decent final number especially considering that North, South and West Bengal have hardly performed due to the competition of AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL. The distributor share of the film is going to be 25% higher than last years action thriller Baby which was also a so so performer.

SHIVAAY had a fair second weekend of 13.25 crore nett apprx taking its ten day total to around 76.50 crore nett. The drop is only 45% from last weekend but that is because its was pre Diwali last week and collections were dull. Still after a holiday week and a clash its not a bad second weekend though it has been helped in parts by a prolonged holiday period. The jump on Sunday was solid across the board and on Sunday it was the closest it has ever been to AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL. Due to the holiday period, the figures of SHIVAAY in Gujarat/Saurashtra are HIT numbers and it will be second highest grosser of 2016 in this sub circuit of Mumbai after SULTAN. This has also enabled the Mumbai circuit to be close to 30 crore nett in ten days which is good considering films like HOUSEFULL 3 and M S DHONI - THE UNTOLD STORY did 35 crore in Mumbai for lifetime business. The business of SHIVAAY till date is as follows..
Week One - 63,47,00,000
Friday - 3,25,00,000
Saturday - 4,25,00,000
Sunday - 5,75,00,000 apprx
Second Weekend - 13,25,00,000
TOTAL - 76,72,00,000
The film needs a big hold on second Monday to put up a good lifetime number which is actually turning out to be the first normal day since last Monday and the first real test. But the trending outside the non holiday circuits suggest its a big task and collections are likely to drop. Still the film has done pretty decent business till now.

SHIVAAY showed growth of 20-25% on its second Saturday which again like AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL is lower than normal due to prolonged holidays. The collections of the film are fair till now but the clash is affecting it at big city multiplexes. If there was no AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL it may not make much of a difference in the high multiplexes of Mumbai and Delhi as content is not for that audience but the smaller multiplexes in these cities and other places like Lucknow, Ajmer, Indore etc would have done better for sure and the film would have much higher number for sure. Still the film is in a much better position than it was after three days and has held its own against AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL. The business of SHIVAAY till date is as follows..
Week One - 63,47,00,000
Friday - 3,25,00,000
Saturday - 4-4.25 crore apprx
TOTAL - 70,87,00,000
It will the Monday figure that will probably decide if the film can do lifetime business of around 90 crore nett which would be a fair total.

SHIVAAY had a decent second Friday with collections in the 3-3.25 crore nett range. The drop for the film is only 63-64% from day one which is very solid trending but it does look the prolonged holiday period is still helping as collections in Gujarat and UP are still very good. The day eight collections are in a similar range to M S DHONI - THE UNTOLD STORY though its the weekend collections that will tell where this Friday stands. The growth may not come out as normal for the second Saturday but if it does it will mean a very strong second Friday for SHIVAAY and good trending. The business of SHIVAAY till date is as follows.
Friday - 9,15,00,000
Saturday - 8,25,00,000
Sunday - 6,50,00,000
Monday - 15,75,00,000
Tuesday - 11,00,00,000
Wednesday - 6,25,00,000
Thursday - 4,75,00,000
Day Eight (Friday) - 3-3.25 crore apprx
TOTAL - 64,80,00,000
The film stands at around 65 crore nett in eight days and if the growth come out over the weekend, the film is looking at a dcent lifetime total and in a much position than it was in a few days back.

SHIVAAY had a decent first week of around 61.50 crore nett which is the eighth highest first week total of 2016 after SULTAN, M S DHONI - THE UNTOLD STORY, HOUSEFULL 3, AIRLIFT, AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL and FAN. The difference between the collections of SHIVAAY and AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL can be put down to the poor start that SHIVAAY took at the multiplexes of A centres. The collections fell further over Saturday and Sunday giving it a low weekend. It had a huge jump on Monday due to the big holiday and did well on the next day but then collections came down to a lower level. It is probably coincidence but the first week collections are in the same range as other Ajay Devgn films like GOLMAAL 3, BOL BACHCHAN and SON OF SARDAAR. All these films were around 61 and 62 crore nett and have the best first week collections for an Ajay Devgn starrer outside SINGHAM RETURNS which crossed 100 crore nett in the first week.
The best performance has come in Mumbai circuit as the Gujarat/Saurashtra belt has done very well due to extended holiday periods. Rajasthan, CP Berar, CI and Bihar have also done well as all these circuits scored over AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL. The poor business has come in Mysore and West Bengal but that happens for most mass films. North India is so so with collections below AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL in most centres of Delhi NCR, East Punjab and UP. The Thursday to Friday fall is very important for the film as it needs a very strong hold to put up a good final number. If its the regular 30% drop then it will probably be looking at average performance on a best case scenario.

SHIVAAY was fair on Wednesday and the hold was decent coming off Bhai Dooj but the problem for the film is the collections are coming down to low levels. The Wednesday number is under 6 crore nett and there is a further drop to come on Thursday as other parts come off holidays. This will probably leave the film needing a very strong hold between Thursday and Friday to get a good second week number up. The near 57 crore nett business is decent till now but the film has to go on from here. The business is good in UP, Rajasthan, CP Berar, Ci and Bihar and very good in Gujarat / Saurashtra but some of these places are being held up by holidays. The first six day business of SHIVAAY is as follows.
Friday - 9,15,00,000
Saturday - 8,25,00,000
Sunday - 6,50,00,000
Monday - 15,75,00,000
Tuesday - 11,00,00,000
Wednesday - 5,75,00,000
TOTAL - 56,40,00,000
Like AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL the film will fall on Thursday more than normal but still the film will cross 60 crore nett in week one and then it becomes about where that second Friday lands.

SHIVAAY did well again on Tuesday with its business comfortably going over 10 crore nett and it collected more than it did on day one thanks to the partial holiday for Bhai Dooj. The collections of the film were very good in the Central markets and Gujarat and good in North and Bihar. The five day total is over 50 crore nett and the film has done more business in the last two days than it did over the weekend. In terms of collections against AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL it is the closest its ever been on Tuesday. The gap was big over the weekend and looked a one sided clash but the last two days has seen SHIVAAY make it more of a fight as far as the domestic business is concerned. The first five day business of SHIVAAY is as follows.
Friday - 9,15,00,000
Saturday - 8,25,00,000
Sunday - 6,50,00,000
Monday - 15,75,00,000

SHIVAAY showed a huge jump on Monday as collections were around 70% up from day one. This was because the mass markets came to the fore as was expected and single screens generally were recording full houses due to the big holiday. The film had a low weekend but the Monday figure has put it back in the race and today is a partial holiday and again mass centres will perform well which could aid the film. The film was doing very strong numbers in the Central India belt of Rajastan, CP Berar and CI and also in Bihar. Both Rajathan and CP Berar both crossed 1 crore nett which only SULTAN has managed this year on any single day. The first four day business of SHIVAAY is as follows.
Friday - 9,15,00,000
Saturday - 8,25,00,000
Sunday - 6,50,00,000
Monday - 15,75,00,000
TOTAL - 39,95,00,000
SHIVAAY should have another solid performance due to the partial holiday for Bhai Dooj. Like AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL, it will be Wednesday that will decide where the week is going and give an indication to where the film is heading.

SHIVAAY grossed 24 crore nett in its first weekend which is a low number but the collections have been hit very badly by the pre Diwali phase. The collections on Sunday in places like East Punjab, Rajasthan and CI were the type that you would not even expect on a weekday for a big film. The metros and other big cities like Chandigarh, Lucknow, Nagpur, Indore etc have been affected by the clash as multiplexes in these areas have under performed till date. The business in Mumbai circuit is probably best with around 8 crore nett in three days. A market like CI has not even grossed 1 crore nett and this circuit would normally have been one of the best performers. The first weekend business of SHIVAAY is as follows.
Friday - 9,15,00,000
Saturday - 8,25,00,000
Sunday - 6,50,00,000
TOTAL - 23,90,00,000
SHIVAAY will pick up today (Monday) but it is about how big that pick up that is. AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL led by 4 crore nett apprx on day one and SHIVAAY has to be making inroads into that lead on Monday as for mass centres it is the best day for collections of the year. Eventually SHIVAAY has to work with that audience if it does have any chance working as a whole.

SHIVAAY dropped around 10-12% on Saturday with business around 8-8.25 crore nett. The drop for SHIVAAY like AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL was mainly North and Central India but the problem for SHIVAAY was that it had a far larger contribution coming from mass centres and single screens and these tend to drop more which lead to SHIVAAY having a bigger drop. The film was better in Mumbai and South but in the latter the film is not collecting well and this area is best pre Diwali. The first two day business of SHIVAAY is as follows.
Friday - 9,15,00,000
Saturday - 8,25,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 17,40,00,000
SHIVAAY will also find it tough going on Sunday as the markets where its best collections are will again be hit due to Diwali puja and could drop further. Then it will be D Day on Monday as the audiences will be back. It will have to close the the gap on AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL with a big number if it is to have any chance of succeeding.

SHIVAAY grossed 8.75 crore nett apprx on day one which is a low number but its an average first day if we take into account it was pre Diwali and the mass markets where it had potential to do well were always going to struggle to collect well. Despite it being pre Diwali the better collections have still come in mass centres. The film has its best collections in Rajasthan, CP Berar, CI and Bihar where both multiplexes and single screens have done well. In UP it was the single screens which did well but multiplexes did not. The problem for the film was multiplexes in places like Mumbai, Delhi and Punjab where the collections are low and these will have to come to the fore on Monday.
The film also find it tough in mass markets over the weekend as Diwali gets closer and these key markets for the film get weaker. Despite a low number on Friday the film will find it tough to find any growth over the weekend due to mass markets being weak though multiplexes in Mumbai, Delhi and Punjab can get gains though Diwali does affect business hugely in the North. The performance in South India is weak where traditionally Diwali has a limited affect in collections. Its going to be a wait and watch situation for the film till Monday and then that big jump will have to come. If these sort of numbers had come in a normal day then the film would practically have no chance.
It is coincidence but the business is very similar to the MOHENJO DARO and RUSTOM clash with AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL doing similar to RUSTOM on day one and SHIVAAY similar to MOHENJO DARO. But as the business has come pre Diwali and bigger holidays to come both of the Diwali releases are in a better position as compared to their counterparts.
