RAKSHA BANDHAN will end its run with lifetime business of 45 crore nett as its run comes to and end this week. Like LAAL SINGH CHADDHA, the film has just crashed out with content being totally rejected. The film has managed to beat the bigger film LAAL SINGH CHADDHA in some circuits but that means little.

The performance overseas is also horrible as it failed to collect in any market. The saving grace is the revenue for digital and satellite which will save the day in terms of economics for another film gone all wrong. 

The combined business of the two Raksha Bandha /Independence Week releases will hardly be 105 crore and that is with a number of big holidays. This does look the lowest point ever for Hindi cinema at the box office. The question now is there a bigger low to come or this is as worst as it gets. Both films had that dated look despite the big stars and both films seemed more for home viewing rather than cinemas. So the fate of the films is not surprising. The surprise was how fast they went out.

LAAL SINGH CHADDHA saw a huge drop again post the Janmashtami period as it collected only 50 lakhs nett on Monday. The drop on Monday puts the film with little chance of reaching 60 crore nett.

The second week is looking to be 6.25 crore nett which is awful for a big film and that too with many holidays for Janmashtami.

RAKSHA BANDHAN is following a similar trend to LAAL SINGH CHADDHA and also saw a big drop on its second Monday. The film only collected 40 lakhs nett on its second Monday and took its total to 42 crore nett. This film will do a second week of 5.25-5.50 crore nett which is again awful and it is struggling for 45 crore nett lifetime.

LAAL SINGH CHADDHA collected 1.25 crore nett apprx on its second Friday. There was not much of a drop from Thursday but it hardly matters as the collections are so low. The second Friday business does mean the film should get to 60 crore nett plus which did not look possible a couple of days back.

Still it is Janmashtami period and there can be some holiday factor as various parts of the country celebrate on different days. If the normal second Saturday growth comes, then the lifetime is looking around 61-63 crore nett for the film.

RAKSHA BANDHAN collected 1 crore nett on its second Friday which is also not much down from Thursday though more than LAAL SINGH CHADDHA. Here the lifetime is looking 46-48 crore nett if it has the normal second Saturday growth.

LAAL SINGH CHADDHA fell on Thursday again even though it was a holiday for Janmashtami. The collections of the for the first week are a little over 50 crore nett. The rejection of the film is at such a level that even on holidays, the collections are going down.

LAAL SINGH CHADDHA has seen huge recoveries from non theatrical sources which will go to around 180 crore but still the film will suffer heavy losses. This is the second event film to go horribly wrong after 83 post the pandemic. Theatrically it is far worse than that film but commercially less as Aamir Khan is likely to absorb some of the huge losses a bit like Shah Rukh Khan did in ZERO.

RAKSHA BANDHAN showed very limited growth on Thursday which was a holiday for Janmashtami. The film has ended the first week with a round 37.50 crore nett. It has finally caught the collections of LAAL SINGH CHADDHA mainly as Hindi circuits are far ahead of the Aamir Khan-starrer

This film will be saved by the huge satellite and digital revenue of 125 crore but only god knows how the holders of these rights will recover the money.

RAKSHA BANDHAN also saw a huge drop in collections as it collected in the 1.65 crore nett range. The drop may not be as big as LAAL SINGH CHADDHA but that hardly matters as the drop itself is huge at around 80% from the opening day.

The collections of the film are just 35 crore nett in six days and the week will probably end at around 40 crore nett. If we take out Punjab and South, the film is doing better than LAAL SINGH CHADDHA but that is more down to fact that the Aamir Khan-starrer is so low rather than anything to with RAKSHA BANDHAN.

The audience is not just interested in this genre at the moment as it can be easily consumed at home on television and it will need a very good film in this genre to make it work in theatres and the very good films are very rare.

RAKSHA BANDHAN went the same way as LAAL SINGH CHADDHA as it collected almost 34 crore nett over its extended five day weekend. This film has also faced rejection even though some places have managed okay collections in Hindi circuits. But these will come down now that the weekend and holiday period is over.

The film basically lost whatever chance it had on Saturday as it did not go up and from there it was an uphill battle. The collections on the big holiday on Monday needed to be far higher than the opening day but not only were they lower than day one but also lower than Sunday.

The film will no doubt have a big drop on Tuesday and it remains to be seen if the film can get over the 50 crore nett mark in the long run. Not that it would achieve much if it gets there.

It has been a sad weekend for the film industry but as been mentioned in these reports, after each so called shocker, there are more to come and still there maybe a few more left until the content changes in accordance to the mass and youth of the day. Both LAAL SINGH CHADDHA and RAKSHA BANDHAN had nothing for that male mass and youth segment which forms bulk of the cinema going audience today and hence the collections.

RAKSHA BANDHAN collected a poor 27 crore nett over its four day weekend and there is still one more day to go for the weekend with a big holiday but collections did not go up much on Sunday which means there will not be much of a boost today.

The film is doing better in the Hindi circuits of CI, Rajasthan and UP but the jump was missing here on Sunday and these places do best on Sunday. Despite the weekend and holiday, the first day would end up being the best day for the film when it needed to reach double digits at least.

The Sunday number also leaves the film with little chance catching LAAL SINGH CHADDHA be it a daily number or overall number which looked a possibility on Friday.

RAKSHA BANDHAN could not show any growth on Saturday as collections remained pretty flat and pretty much in the same range as Friday as it collected 5.75-6 crore nett. The film was never going to have huge growth as it did not fall much on Friday and the places where growth is strong on Saturday are where the film has not found an audience.

Still it could have been 20-30% up which would have given some momentum going into Sunday and the big holiday on Monday and maybe a shot of double digit numbers on the last two days of its extended weekend. But that does not that seem possible.

The film remains better in Hindi speaking belts of UP, CI and Rajasthan but collections remain dull in Mumbai city, Pune, Kolkata, Bangalore and Hyderabad. Gujarat has also seen collections down on Friday and Saturday but that should do better on Sunday and the big Independence Day holiday. The weekend of the film is just 20 crore nett apprx and that is just too low of a number. 

The film closed the gap on LAAL SINGH CHADDHA on Friday but that gap has been extended again on Saturday. The film stands at around 7 crore nett lower than the competition.

RAKSHA BANDHAN did fair business in some pockets on the second day as it collected around 6.25 crore nett which is a 25% drop from the first day. The trend is pretty decent for Friday post a Thursday holiday. But the problem is that the numbers are low so despite a decent hold on the second day and hence, the overall collections remain low.

The hold is also there due to the post Raksha Bandhan benefit as UP showed a huge jump in collections with some cinemas more than doubling collections from Thursday. The second day collections in UP are good. The film has also shown solid holds in places like CI and Rajasthan. These circuits are collecting around 50-60% more than LAAL SINGH CHADDHA.

The business remains low in the bigger centres while South India is awful but you don't really want South India to be leading either as it will mean limited market for the film. Due to the initial, the film cant really do much but there seems some good trend in mass pockets which can help the film at least on Sunday and Monday. It could be that it is the post Raksha Bandhan benefit but at least its there unlike LAAL SINGH CHADDHA.

The film has closed the gap on LAAL SINGH CHADDHA on the second day and maybe it can go ahead at some point of time. It may not be Saturday as that is a day for high end multiplexes which should benefit LAAL SINGH CHADDHA but then then second day should also have benefitted LAAL SINGH CHADDHA.

RAKSHA BANDHAN collected 8 crore nett on its first day which is a disappointing number considering the holiday of Raksha Bandhan. Although it is not a major holiday, it should have pushed the film higher especially as its an apt time for release of this film.

The other release, LAAL SINGH CHADDHA, saw its best business in Delhi NCR and East Punjab while this film was best in Gujarat/Saurashtra, CI and Rajasthan. These places are normally better for Akshay Kumar films and the holiday also pushed in these circuits. The opening day of this film in Gujarat is comparable to any other original Hindi film outside SOORYAVANSHI but again the holiday is big in Gujarat.

RAKSHA BANDHAN may have got more benefit of the holiday as its stronger in the Hindi belts which could mean it drop more on day two as against LAAL SINGH CHADDHA. The film holds little appeal for the youth and is mainly for family audiences which means that it is a word of mouth film. But the problem today is that the film which needs to pick is finding it tough to work and here its tough to pick up, that too after a holiday.

It remains to be seen where the film goes on Sunday where it can score in the Hindi belts again if public reports allow but even to be in the race for Sunday.
