BALA is coming to the end of its run and will finish with 111 crore nett. The film suffered a huge drop with the release of PATI PATNI AUR WOH and PANIPAT in week five. Though the film has not really gone on from the first week like a concept film should but given the low cost of the film, it is still a SUPER HIT film.

It is 14th highest grosser of the year and has managed to beat bigger films like DE DE PYAAR DE and MANIKARNIKA - THE QUEEN OF JHANSI.

The film is a BELOW AVERAGE affair theatrically but should do well post theatrical release on satellite and digital. There probably will be another film in the franchise unless the it disappoints on satellite and digital as then the revenue from these sources will be less and they form the bulk of its recovery.

PAGALPANTI had a poor first week collecting a little over 28 crore nett in its first week. The writing was on the wall from day one as it collected just 5 crore nett and there was no big jump on the weekend. The collections on Monday and Tuesday settled a little which gave it a chance to have some second week collections but it was all downhill from there.

The second week will see very limited collections for the film. The film will be a rare loser from the 50 odd releases that have come this year which have awareness. Though most of these films flop theatrically, they manage to cover due to the satellite and digital revenue. Even this film with a worldwide share of 35 crore would have been safe though that is poor business theatrically but it will manage just about little more than half of that 35 crore. The film saw dull numbers across the board.

PAGALPANTI continued its poor run on Tuesday with collections of 2.35 crore nett apprx which takes its total to almost 24.50 crore nett. The Monday drop and Tuesday drops are not big but the damage was done over the weekend. If the film had opened well and then trended like this then the scenario would be different.

Comedy films are never the biggest grossers in India and this goes back forever as no comedy film has never got close to breaking records. But over the last decade or two they have been safe bets and many have done well. The problem with the genre is when a comedy is not funny then these films just cant get an audience and that is what has happened to PAGALPANTI. Even circuits like Gujarat/Saurashtra and CP, CI, Rajasthan which are more receptive to comedies (mass comedies like HOUSEFULL and GOLMAAL, not BALA or BADHAAI HO types) have disaster collections for this film.

The film has collected 21.50 crore nett in five days and is looking at a 24 crore nett plus first week which is a good number for a animation film if it can do well over the second weekend.

The first week business of this film will be 28-29 crore nett which is very poor and there will not be much coming after the first week making the 40 crore nett mark an uphill task for the film. There are around 40-50 releases a year which have good awareness among the public and the potential to get an audience and although most of these do not do well theatrically, very few loose money. This is because of satellite and digital but PAGALPANTI is one of those few which will loose money. A few years back this film would be loosing around 40-50 crore but due to higher revenues from satellite and digital today, it will lose half of what it would have a few years back.

So there is a good chance that the film will do around 35 crore nett which is a good result for an animation film.

PAGALPANTI has not done well over its first weekend recording collections of under 20 crore nett. The film picked up 19.50 crore nett which is too low for this film. The costing of this film is double of MARJAAVAAN and that film picked up over 23 crore nett in its first weekend.

The opening day killed the film with just 5 crore nett coming and then the jump on day two was pretty limited when it had to be huge. The Sunday growth is pretty good but its a bit late in the day and coming off a low Saturday, it does not make much difference. The only hope for the film is if it can repeat the Friday collections on Monday which will be very unlikely.

The C's rated the film at the same level as HOUSEFULL 4 and that is where the audience comes in and differentiates between two films. C's will be used here to for critics as that is how they are seen by some of the public while in most of industry, Hindi slang word begging with C is used to describe them and a lot of the public, mainly fans of the bigger stars, have actually been coming around to this since last Eid going by our mailbox but more on this later this week.

FROZEN 2 has done well in its opening weekend collecting over 18 crore nett which is already over six times the business of FROZEN which came in 2013. The film had huge growth on Saturday and consolidated on Sunday and it remains to be seen where the film comes out on Monday. The target should be around the Friday figure but the film could be more of a weekend when the families take the kids to watch it.

PAGALPANTI went up 25% on Saturday to collect 6.25 crore nett but it needed to go the FROZEN 2 way and double up its collections or at least be close to doubling up. The poor start of the film means that 25% growth is nothing on Saturday.

The two day numbers are only 11.25 crore nett which is similar to what a solo John Abraham film ROMEO AKBAR WALTER had done and that was a flop film. The film has very bad collections and it now needs a miracle on Monday so that collections come out around the Friday number. Its very unlikely but still that is the only minor hope for the film.

FROZEN 2 doubled its collections on day two as it collected 6.75 crore nett on Saturday. The two day total is 10 crore nett which is a solid number for an animation film. It is sure to post a healthy weekend total but the question is can it hold up strongly over the weekdays or will it remain a weekend film due to the kids audience.

PAGALPANTI had a poor first day as it collected 5 crore nett but the fact it got to 5 crore nett means that it had growth in the evening as the morning collections were horrible. This does not alter the fact that its a poor number and the film has to like double up on Saturday to be in the race again.

It will be very difficult to double up as its a mass comedy film but the mass centres have not performed and they just don't double the collections on day 2. These centres have to be interested initially for a film to actually work in these places. The bigger multiplexes have the potential to double up or even more but it will be a surprise if it happens for this film as its not really for that audience.

The business is generally low in all circuits with Mumbai at around 1.60 crore, Delhi/UP at 1.15 crore nett and East Punjab at 49 lakhs. The collections in Rajasthan, CP Berar and CI are also low with none of these circuits going over 30 lakhs. The only small plus was that it managed to beat FROZEN 2 as some audience did come post the afternoon whereas if it maintained like morning it would be the same as that film which is animation.

FROZEN 2 did well on day one with 3.50 crore which is one of the best starts for an animation film in India. It has already beaten the lifetime number of the last film which was around 2.90 crore nett in 2013; it had released in 75 screens. The growth was not huge in the evening as a 4 crore nett plus number could have been achieved with good evening growth. But being a kids film, the target audience will probably come today and Sunday rather than Friday evening. The film looks set for a decent weekend at least
