The new release of last week DAAS DEV was a poor fare as it grossed around 2.75 crore nett. The film will have limited business in week two and finish with a lifetime total of 3 crore nett.
OCTOBER had a fair third week as it grossed 3 crore nett to take its total to 40 crore nett plus. The film was bumped up by the partial holidays on Monday and Tuesday when collections were better than the Friday as can be seen below. The drop in the third week is a little under 30% which is not bad considering the competition from AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR. The film will have limited business to come from its fourth week onward.
The collections of OCTOBER till date are as follows.
Week One - 27,75,00,000 apprx
Week Two- 9,75,00,000 apprx
Friday - 35,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 65,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 75,00,000 apprx
Monday - 40,00,000 apprx
Tuesday - 45,00,000 apprx
Wednesday - 20,00,000 apprx
Thursday - 20,00,000 apprx

OCTOBER grossed 27.75 crore nett in its first week which is on the lower side but it did hold well over the weekdays which is pretty much the story for all these urban content type of films. The film is safe in terms of economics due to the revenue from digital and satellite but has to go towards the 40 crore nett mark for a respectable theatrical performance.
This will depend on the business of the second Friday which is all important for the film. It has held well over the weekdays but places like Mumbai and Bangalore sometimes drop off in the second week. A sustaining area like Delhi NCR is under performing for the film and so it remains to be seen how it goes.
A drop under 30% from Thursday will do nicely for the film but if it goes towards 40% or more then it will have to show bigger growth on Saturday.
The film has the lowest figures for a Varun Dhawan starrer in week one but was probably a certainty before release as its his first film inspired by European cinema which is dire and flat for the majority of Hindi film audience. Actually second after BADLAPUR but that film was adapted better and not as subtle as this and had Hit songs to give it an initial boost which was the main reason of its success. That film had a first week of almost 36 crore nett and is the second lowest Varun Dhawan starrer in week one.
The Hollywood release RAMPAGE did fair business in week one as it grossed around 18.75 crore nett and this is without 3D screenings which would have easily taken it over 20 crore nett and maybe even a few crore higher than 20 crore nett which would have been a good result.
The film held well on the weekdays and could do decent business in its second week. The lack of competition will improve it chances for a decent second week total though next week it will be out and AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR releases which is the biggest Hollywood release of the year for India.

OCTOBER has sustained well on Tuesday with hardly any drop from Monday as it collected just a little under 2.50 crore nett. The total collection of the film is nearly 24 crore nett and looks set for a first week of 28 crore nett.
If the film can maintain on Wednesday like it has on Monday and Tuesday that will put the film in pretty good shape as far as the weekday business is concerned. Its still dependent on that crucial second Friday but with films with names like NANU KI JAANU and BEYOND THE CLOUDS being the competition there is a huge possibility that OCTOBER can continue to dominate the box office and get decent numbers in week two.
The first weekend business of OCTOBER is as follows.
Friday - 4,50,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 7,00,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 7,50,00,000 apprx
First Weekend - 19,00,00,000 apprx
Monday - 2,50,00,000 apprx
Tuesday - 2,40,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 23,90,00,000 apprx
The very limited market is a problem as this sort of cinema which is very art house may also consume much its audience in week one. There are other urban films which also have a similar treatment which keeps them to the five metros but the ones which go on to do higher numbers tend to be a little lighter or have a stronger plot so have wider audience in these five metros.

OCTOBER grossed 2.50 crore nett on its first Monday which is a 45% drop day one. The trending is better than normal for a Monday but as the film did not open well the drop had to be lower if it was to really sustain over the next few weeks. The film is limited to high end multiplexes in the five metros and that is what it will probably be left with in the second week.
The total of the film in four days is 21.50 crore nett and the week should hold through the week in the 2-2.50 crore nett range for a week one total of 26-26.50 crore nett. Then it becomes about the second Friday and that will have to show a fair hold for the film to above 40 crore nett which would be a fair result.
The first weekend business of OCTOBER is as follows.
Friday - 4,50,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 7,00,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 7,50,00,000 apprx
Monday - 2,50,00,000 apprx
First Weekend - 19,00,00,000 apprx
Monday - 2,50,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 21,50,00,000 apprx
A 3 crore nett or higher total on Monday could have really set the film on its way but now its depending on that crucial second Friday for a decent final total. The best business for the film is in places like Mumbai city, Bangalore and Pune.

OCTOBER picked up over the weekend after a slow start on Friday and it was pretty much the story most of these urban audience targeted films have. The weekend numbers are low at 19 crore nett but the trend of the film gives the film a chance to have a run if the weekdays can sustain. The Sunday growth is better than it looks as the Saturday number is probably inflated around 5% by some partial holidays though 8 crore nett on Sunday would have been a real result instead of 7.25-7.50 crore nett range.
The film is safe in economics trade terms as a big price for satellite and digital has covered its 35 crore budget and PA. Amazon have taken both digital and satellite and will probably offload satellite at a later date. But that is where it needs some appreciation with the theatrical audience because if it does not, then the holders of satellite and digital face the burden, as recovery for them is a huge task because a film which does not run in theaters is unlikely to work in other formats unless its a commercial entertainer which OCTOBER is not.
The first weekend business of OCTOBER is as follows.
Friday - 4,50,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 7,00,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 7,50,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 19,00,00,000 apprx
There are not many films that can be compared to this and the closest is probably LOOTERA (2013) which had a similar cost though Ranveer Singh did not have the stardom in 2013 that Varun Dhawan has in 2018 but it had Sonakshi Sinha as female lead who was a top heroine at the time. That film had opened to 4 crore nett and scored a 16 crore nett weekend and OCTOBER has done better than that.
LOOTERA was an awful film and it folded quickly at 28 crore nett though it was highly rated by the writers which is true of OCTOBER as well but what is said and written is not important and mostly fake so OCTOBER has to avoid the kick in the teeth that the audience gave LOOTERA.

OCTOBER showed very good growth of 55% on Saturday as it grossed 7 crore nett with high end multiplexes in metros doubling up in collections. A circuit like Mysore almost doubled its collections while many theatres in Mumbai city also were almost double.
There was a partial holiday in some places like Baisakhi in Punjab and Tamil New Year in Tamil Nadu which would have helped in these places but as content not really for these markets, the lift cant be seen in the collections. The Saturday growth is very good but on Sunday the film will find it difficult as the growth comes from Bihar, Rajasthan and Haryana and its hard to see the film getting good numbers in these parts. The key is the weekday business in the metros.
The first two day business of OCTOBER is as follows.
Friday - 4,50,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 7,00,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 11,50,00,000 apprx
The Hollywood release RAMPAGE showed a jump of 50% as it grossed 3.75 crore nett on day two an took its total to 6.25 crore nett. The film will cross 10 crore nett for the weekend which is low generally for a action Hollywood film. But this film came with no promotion and without a 3D release and hence that the collections are respectable.
