KARWAAN has managed to run for six weeks even though it was affected by the big Independence Day releases. The film has done fair business in South and the film is still running in a place like Kochi where even bigger Hindi films struggle for a four week run. This was probably because the main lead is an actor from the Malayalam industry based in Kerala.

The film will finish on 22 crore nett which cant be called good but its a respectable total for its costs. The share is around 9 crore which is a little under 50% of its investment. Overall the film is BELOW AVERAGE.

KARWAAN and MULK have had fair collections in their respective second weekends. KARWAAN grossed 4-4.25 crore nett to take its total to 16 crore nett plus. MULK was a little better with 4.75 crore nett over the weekend and it took its total to 16.25 crore nett.

KARWAAN has dropped around 45% from last week while MULK is only 30% but despite these holds the films are not really going anywhere due to the poor business in week one. It was an open week as the big releases come on Wednesday and this allowed both KARWAAN and MULK an extended run but they will be out after another two days.

Both films will probably stay under 20 crore nett though this will mean both films will at least cover their P & A from theatrical release but that is not saying much. The collections of KARWAAN and MULK till date are as follows.

The Hollywood release THE MEG remained low over the weekend despite huge growth om Saturday. The film grossed around 5.25 crore nett over the weekend with a 1.10 crore nett start on Friday.

KARWAAN and MULK have held on well in the second weekend due to the lack of competition. Both films hardly dropped on Friday as compared to Thursday with MULK showing no drop at all. MULK is now edging ahead of KARWAAN and should come out on top in the final count by a small margin.

Still it does not make much difference to the fate of the films as the holds are mainly due to the fact that the new releases are coming on Wednesday and then both films will be out as occupancy is so low. The appreciation is not really there for the films.

The other release of last week FANNEY KHAN has crashed out with collections set to be 90% down in week two.

There were three releases last week and none of them could do well. FANNEY KHAN was a disaster with collections 9.35 crore nett in week one and the film will close at 10 crore nett as it hardly has any shows in week two.

MULK also fared poorly with collections of 11.30 crore nett in week one which is too low though the weekday business was steady at low levels. The problem for the film is that it basically has a five day second week which will limit the business of the film in week two. The film had to do more than Friday on Monday and that could have taken the film to a decent final total.

KARWAAN was the best of the lot at 12 crore nett as it performed reasonably well in the South India markets for a film of this size. The presence of a South Indian actor from Malayalam film industry helped its cause down South. The weekdays were low but steady and like MULK it had to be doing more than Monday on Friday for a decent final haul.

KARWAAN and MULK made a little ground on Tuesday as both films went up a little as compared with Tuesday. FANNEY KHAN went down further and will finish its first week with business of around 9.50 crore nett and is a disaster.

KARWAAN has become the first of the three to get to the 10 crore nett mark and the first week will be around 12 crore nett but then it will be a shortened second week with GOLD and SATYAMEVA JAYATE hitting the screens on Wednesday.

MULK has grossed 9.25 crore nett so far and should end the week with around 11.50 crore nett but it will face the same problem as KARWAAN with a shortened run and will have very limited screen time when GOLD and SATYAMEVA JAYATE release. Though even if there were not these big releases, its not as if KARWAAN or MULK would have scored.

The weekend has seen poor results with all three releases staying below the 10 crore nett mark for the weekend. FANNEY KHAN which had the best opening day in terms of collections is a disaster as it fell flat over the weekend. FANNEY KHAN grossed in the 6.75 crore nett range.

KARWAAN has done the best business of 7.75 crore nett as the film has notched up decent collections in the South especially Bangalore. It had the best trend of the three releases and maybe it can hold on Monday due to the huge growth on Saturday but still the collections are very low. The problem could be that Bangalore does drop on the weekdays especially Monday. It has come out on top by 1 crore nett which is a healthy lead considering there is very limited collections for all three films.

MULK grossed similar to FANNEY KHAN with 6.75 crore nett but it had a much better trend than FANNEY KHAN. The film could have done better but in a place like UP it is FANNEY KHAN and even KARWAAN which have the single screens while MULK has done the best business. If this film had a good single screen release it could have done more but with less than 7 crore nett weekend it is a poor result.

The new releases which came on Friday are going nowhere at the box office with the biggest film FANNEY KHAN proving to be a disaster. The other two KARWAAN and MULK are also going nowhere as Monday figures are so low. The former did show a huge jump on Saturday and had the best weekend collections but Monday was not good. MULK came out with best Monday collections but again they are too low for the film to go anywhere.

These films had to at worst same as Friday business and preferably more as Friday numbers were so bad to stay in the race. The P and A of these three films range from 7-9 crore and the way its going it will be a struggle for any of them to recover the P and A. FANNEY KHAN for sure wont while KARWAAN and MULK have outside chance on a best case scenario

KARWAAN comes out ahead in the three way clash between the new releases as it has shown the most growth of all the three releases on Saturday as collections have almost doubled up from the first day. A few years ago this would have meant certain success for a film but now even this sort of Saturday growth has to be taken with a pinch of salt especially for a metro multiplex film and its the wait for Monday.

MULK is second best as that film has growth around 60% which is decent and gives it an outside chance especially as there is a possibility that Muslim centres will have best day on Sunday. The collections of both KARWAAN and MULK are still very low for two days. FANNEY KHAN despite being the biggest film of the lot will come out third best as it seems to have been totally rejected by the audience and it was pretty much flat on the second day.

The three new releases have fared very poorly initially which was expected as the trailers were not exciting for any of the films. The bigger problem is the reports for FANNEY KHAN, MULK and KARWAAN because none of them have good reports which can suggest a huge turnaround in fortunes.

All three films managed to improve a little in the evening but that is normal and happens with almost every film which does not open. FANNEY KHAN had the best collections of 1.80-1.90 crore nett but considering the budget of the film it can actually be called the worst performer of the three films. It also had the widest release of all three films. There will be growth on Saturday but its unlikely to help much.

MULK was next best at 1.50-1.60 crore nett. The film did a little better business in UP especially the Muslim centers but Mumbai circuit and South saw very low collections. The film probably had the weakest cast out of the three films so on that note it can be called the best performer as far as day one goes out of the three films.

KARWAAN was the lowest of them all at 1.40-1.50 crore nett but it could show the best growth out of the three as its come on a more limited release compared to the other two films. Also centers like Bangalore jump well on Saturday and this film has the best collections there. The apprx first day collections of the three films are as follows.
